Estimated Years Restore

I have had my 68 gto since high school "1978". I start the restoration process in 2007 after hauling the gto back from Idaho to southern california. Thus, I have been at it for nearly four years. I have made some good progress however at my present rate it will be another two or three years . Item that have been completed include (1) rebuild engine, (2) transmission, (3) rearend, (4) new suspension, (5) frame reconditioned and powercoated, (6) truck pan rust repaired, and (7) left quarter panel replaced. The remaining portion of the body is rust free. The body is presently being stripped for painting.

I estimated that I about 65 percent complete. Am about right ? Or what percentage would you place my progress ? Keep in mind that I am going everything myself with the exception of the engine rebuild.:D:D

id say your 80 % done,if paint and body work is all thats left
of course the time of paint and body work varies alot between those that do it.

I got my "shell" from "Pontiac Heaven" in .. 2000 , It was pretty much rust free.. MY car is still not done.. LOL
Sounds like you have made enough progress to keep motivated... You are OVer the hump, but unless you know a body guy and do alot of prep or help him with taping it etc, youll spend some in the paint.. Youll be happy when its done...so will we!! post some pics!

Depends on how rough the body is after you get it down to the metal. I spent nearly a year filling and sanding dents on my daughters firebird before we started painting it..... then we found more dents that we missed; the paint highlighted them LOL.....

Like Formulabruce said, You're over the hump. Once you get the car back from paint, it's all going to be assembly for the most part. If you've got everything all clean and ready to go, then I'd think you're in the home stretch. The hardest part for me was all the cleaning and painting. I was amazed and real pleased once I started putting it all back together. It was like a good book, hard to stop sometimes.

I have to say your making much better progress than I am. I also started the restoration on my 68 GTO in early 2007. Just happens to be my first car, had it since 81.

I have the frame and suspension blasted painted and all suspension components replaced and back together.

Had the engine and trans rebuilt but couldn't stand to see it just sitting on the frame so I dropped them in my Firebird.

The body has been on the rotisserie since 2008. I need to blast and paint the underside but I am dreading the mess, I think that's why I have not made to much progress.

The way I see it, at my current rate I will need a least 10 more years to complete this project.

Have been there on the body on the rotisserie. BUT you can blast it standing up! Theres a soda blasting place here that would do it for 250 probably. Have the epoxy primer ready when your done. If your doing yourself, hire a reliable teen to help with cleanup, and doing the job, will be worth it..

80% done and 80% to go. I've been approximately 3 months from finishing mine at least three different times over the last 5 or 6 years.

My resto took 7 years so I'd say you're about right in your estimation.
