First firebird ever built!
 

Well, long story short... We have the first and second 67 Firebirds ever built(00001 and 00002), and need help getting these into the right hands! Any info you could provide would be great.

I've posted in other Pontiac forums, and someone reccommended I post in this site.

Welcome to the site! How in the world did you find those two cars?

These appear to be the first V8 firebirds produced during the 1967 model year, but that does not necessarliy make them the first Firebirds produced as there were Sprint 6 models also produced at Lordstown, OH plant (VIN code U). Those would have a VIN like:

223677U600001, with a 6 in the first digit after the plant identification...

Hmmm, that's a good point! And you may have cleared up one thing for me.

On the firewall tags where the consecutive build number is, the first car has "SHOW1" and the second car has "SHOW4"

I could never figure out why they skipped. Maybe SHOW2 and SHOW3 were 6 cylinder cars???


Consecutive Build Number:
Located to the right of the Assembly Plant Code. It is the consecutive body build number and indicates the sequence the car came off the assembly line. This number will not match the actual sequential VIN number.

Welcome to the forums! I also own a 67 Firebird. Looks like the early cars got the GTO steering wheel, as the standard Firebird wheel was a little different with plastic spokes with no brushed aluminum trim on the spokes? Have you ordered the documents from Pontiac Historical Services? They can often shed some light on details of the car.

Neat, however I have never seen a 67 "A" or "F" body car with the clear and colored steering wheel as is on the red car.

Where are you located and how long have you owned them?

Wow, incredible find! Definetly the first two V8 Firebirds produced at Lordstown.

I would like to hear the background story on how you got them. I assume if you wanted to get them into the "right hands" that these cars are for sale?

P.S This is just a thought. Since these cars are SHOW1(VIN 00001) and SHOW4(VIN00002) and because gtoMN pointed out that 6 cylinder cars would have also had a 00001 VIN number, I wonder if the first six cars came out like below with each motor available at that time?
