Looking for my old '69 Judge - Southern California
 

Back in 1988 / 1989 I found and bought a '69 Judge. Carousel Red , Hide-a-way lights, hood tach. Car was originally a 4 speed car and had the clutch pedal on the floor BUT the car was changed to an automatic and a 455 engine. I had restored the exterior or the car then had to sell it. A guy out of the Studio City / North Hollywood area bought it and that was the last I heard/saw of the car. Don't have the VIN# but it had 1970's California Blue license plate number: 1KLH898. I have quite of few pictures of the car and will post them soon.

I don't know where your particular car is, but it is quite possible that it was
wrapped around a tree or lightpole at some point. Judging from all the stories people tell
me at car shows about the Judge they had back in the 80's that they wrapped around a pole, I'm surprised that there are any Judges left, or trees for that matter!

Just had the DMV division of AAA look up the license number and they show no records of it. Maybe somewhere along the line someone put personal plates on the car.

Hope you find your car Axle. Maybe your insurance company would have the vin#?

I remember the guy who bought my car called me months later and said "Hey, it really is a Judge"...."I did a PHS on it". Of course it was.
Bits of other things i remember. When i got the car it had a terrible home made yellow paint job on - in case that showed up anywhere. And another important clue. The guys I got the car from said they parted out a '69 GTO that had Hide-a-Way headlights and placed it on the Judge. So , there's a good chance my ol Judge didn't have Hide-a-Way's from the factory. Black interior with manual roll up windows.

Funny, I bought a 70 Judge one owner car (a nice virgin low mile rust free car) back in 2001 and he told me that he didn't like it (despite keeping it for 31 years). When I pressed him why he told me he had bought a new 69 Judge in the spring of 69 and wrapped it around a pole that summer, he tried desperately to get another 69 but had to settle for a 70 that he thought was vastly inferior to a 69 styling wise.

And I would say just the opposite. Amazing. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose...

I'm more a 69 guy than a 70 guy but I look at them as two different styling concepts, a 69 is more a GT style car, stylish, sleek with a bit of a luxury GP kind of feel. The 70 is more of a square shouldered kind of muscle car feel, with more presence.

One reason 69's were always more popular up here in Canada is that 69 was the first year you could get a GTO in Canada so it was a completely new car here, further the other A bodies (LeMans, Tempest etc) were not sold here in 69 so the GTO looked like a unique car, not just like a LeMans with a rubber nose. In 70 and up both the GTO and the LeMans were available in Canada.
