I think we're going to go see this tour... only because DLR is back.

I like the song its kinda blues mixed in with some rock. Eddie looks like he's been through a rough time but he don't miss a cord on that guitar. Im interested to see how they sound with Dlr after all these years.

I think their type of music's time has passed and I don't think it's long enough since we heard from Van Hagar and Dave's last ditty with them to be considered a nostalgia tour. What dya guys think?

Not sure what the fuss is about? Roth was with them a few years ago when they did their failed U.S. tour, when Eddie had to go back to rehab. The media is making it sound like this is the first reunion since 1984, but I guess the record label and the media need to pump up this album and tour, because old rockers just aren't selling anymore.

And without Michael Anthony, it's a far cry from a true reunion, it's just the same 3 of the 4 original members that toured a few years ago.

First time I've heard this song, and I have to say, it sucks. You can tell Roth wrote the lyrics.

Van Halen has fallen into the irrelevant category, but that's what happens when you are in and out of rehab, you have kids (which softens you, and takes the edge off), and your creativity is exhausted. Stick a fork in it, you're done. But you can milk the nostalgia circuit for many years, and play like a cover band plays. Examples : Aerosmith (nothing in 10 years), Metallica (members had kids, they lost their edge), and now Van Halen.

Yeah, it seems disoriented. And it sounds like they're trying to remind me about a familiar conversation they were having with the audience--awkward. It's probably the video doing that to me.

When I discovered Chickenfoot a few months ago, I thought the same thing, you can tell Sammy wrote the lyrics--my opinion anyway.

The first time I heard it, I didn't know it was the new VH song. At first I thought it was a parody song- it was during the morning show. Then I thought it kinda sounded like Sammy Hagar, then I finally realized what it was. Is it a great song? No. Have I heard worse from other once great bands, or even this one. Heck yes!

Has their type of music passed? Maybe, but I'm a guy who grew up in the '70s & '80s, all my music's time has passed. :old: Still better than most of the drivel that passes for music today!

I watched it yesterday with an open mind.

Overal...it's not bad...it's not like their early material, but you have to consider these guys aren't in their early 20's and single anymore, they're in their 50's and divorced/remarried with kids, so I wouldn't expect their writing to have remained the same.

Did anyone else think, upon hearing the 3-part harmony vocals in the chorus for the first time, "hey...did they hire the boys from Extreme to do back up vocals?" (LOL)

It was better than I expected but I anticipated a total phone-in effort. Above all else, I really miss Michael Anthony's harmonies. It just isn't the same without him.

Without Michael Anthony, they don't have the same background vocals. Michael did all the high harmonies, and without him, and probably because Eddie can't sing anymore with his throat problems he had, their background vocals sound like an entirely different band.

The riff in this song was lifted from the hit "Lit Up" by Buckcherry, which hit #1 in 1999 on the U.S. Rock Charts. As for the video, it looks like a dated version of "Jump" from 1984.

They should have called the album "Clutching At Straws", or "Milking It One More Time". I would have suggested "Stick A Fork In Us", but I reserved that album title for the last Metallica album "Some Kind Of Monster" that flopped.

What's interesting is that Alice In Chains (who actually opened for Van Halen in the early 90's) brought in a new lead singer a couple years ago, and they actually created some decent music, derivative of their old stuff, but new enough to make it interesting.

Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony have to be sharing a tequila about now, laughing their asses off, along with Jason Newstead....

Am I the only one who listens to Van Halen mainly for Eddie's guitar playing? I could care less who's fronting the band... DLR, Sammy, or even (yes I'm gonna say it), Gary Cherone. There were fantastic tunes from each era, and each record.

For me, it's all about the guitar. And although Edward isn't breaking any new ground here, he's still playing with his same signature sound and tricks that he always has, and that's what I love about it. The tapping is there; the whammy bar dives are there; the volume swells (ala 'Cathedral') are there in the outro, and the thick, chunky riff is there, all blues based. This is what VH has always been... always will be. I for one don't want them to change! We have PLENTY of new bands with new sounds if that's what you want...

I too miss Mike Anthony (and yes, that's Wolfie, Eddie's son on Bass), but I miss hearing Eddie's guitar more than anything, and THAT is what's back! I can't wait to hear the whole new record, and yes, I will be first in line to buy it.

But I must concede, that like a lot of you, I too would have liked to have heard something with a little more kick to it coming out of the gate. Nevertheless, I will never miss new guitar riffs from Eddie, and I won't complain. The new record should still have plenty of surprises in store for us!

"...tramp-stamp tat, mousewife to momshell in the time it takes to get that new tattoo..." Yep, just what I'd expect from DLR lyrically, just as the guitar sound is just what I'd expect from Eddie. Luv it!

I'll also be first in line to buy tickets to the show too. The guys aren't getting younger, and you never know when the final VH tour will pass by and you'll kick yourself later for not going!

I don't know. I listen to Chickenfoot for Satriani. I listen to the first two albums/CDs for Eddie's playing. They're a masterpiece. I thought this song was tired in the riff dept. It was all the stuff he has always done. Eddie changed playing and gear in a way that extremely few people have done, but I don't think his vocabulary has held up to the progress of today. Sorry. Maybe some of the other songs will do it for me.

Yes Eddies guitar is back!! Not a good song though, they could of done better.
But, who goes to see their show to listen to new stuff? I don't know if they could ever match their first album? A true classic!! But I'm sure they will be a great live show. Like you said go see them now because it could be the last time.
Also don't forget Alex's drumming!! Always loved his style.

I agree that it sounds completely scattered. Horrible lyrics. The chorus? Horrendous. Tattoo,tattoo, was he watching an old Fantasy Island rerun? They think this is the best song to release first off the new album. Must not say much for the rest.

And yet, Chickenfoot has some pretty good tunes (Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, and Joe Satriani)

I might go see them this year, saw them on their failed tour in 09, they actually sounded pretty good before Eddie fell off the wagon
