Power Antenna ID Help
 

I recently dug out this power antenna out of storage. It's been tested and works and is in real nice shape. I was told that it's '58 fullsize. Can anyone help confirm?

Any idea what it's worth?

mwritter.....don't know about 1958, but definately 59 and 60. Both were rear mounted and angled by using an angled chrome bezzel. The support bracket for those years was longer than the one in your picture, as it attached to the inner and outer wheelhouse flange in the trunk. Early 1959's were fully automatic and had three wires (partial up and fully down controlled by the radio on-off switch, and a seperate dash switch that would raise it further.) These also used a relay and internal limit switches. Later 59's and 60's were only manually controlled by a dash switch. I've seen them go for $300-400 in good working condition complete with the mounting bezzels and dash switch, to as little as $40 without those items and questionable operation......John

It appears to be 1960 Casio Antenna. In attached image from Shop Manuals, '59 is on left, '60 on right.

There were two types, automatic and semi-automatic. The semi-automatic does not have limit switch, relay, and related wiring (per the '60 Shop Manual).

Thanks John and Larry for the help. I have a few pages of a shop manual with the antenna, I'll have to see what year manual it is. Looks like I may be able to narrow it down by checking the wiring.

mwritter.....yes, you can identify by the number of wires in the harness. Three wires, black, white, and orange is the fully automatic early 1959 type. Two wires, black and white is the late 59-60 manually controled type. I have one of each. The fully automatic uses a relay, a different type dash switch, and a more complicated wiring scheme. There was also a third type that was specific to the Safari, as there was much less room to mount the body and motor behind the quarter panel. It's easy to check the operation. Ground that short wire, and touch either of the other wires to the positive side. One will either rise or lower the mast. When it's fully raised or lowered it will make a clunking sound......John
