Stuck on the side of the road..
 

I have a "69 GTO with MSD 6al box, MSD distributer, blaster coil, single wire alternater. I have an issue thats been going on for months. Car starts and runs fine...for a short time. Then it just quits..no warning. Starts right back up after sitting 45min...then go a short distance. same thing..it quits..I wait. I'm pretty sure its electrical...gets gas. I even changed the carb. The only other thing I've done is swap the coil. Unfortunately, I'm always alone on these trips. Can't crank the car and check for spark at the same time. I'm suspect of that chinnese ignition box. Anyone have any good advise? Similar experiances? I'd appreciate it....Bill

Is your msd equipment a new install? If so did you have to install a diode to get it to shut off? i installed a new ready to run msd in my 69 gto and mistakingly installed the diode in the wrong alternator wire, facing the wrong way to boot. the car would shut off but was not allowing the battery to charge while driving, also the msd needs the 12 volts to operate and sometimes before the battery drained it acted like the msd was going haywire, which it was because my battery wasnt supplying enough voltage. shut me down on the road several times and drove me nuts. clued in and swapped the diode to correct install and the world was right again.

Everything on the car is about 12 yrs. old....Battery is strong. Thanks judge

I had the same issue with my new ready to run MSD, changed everything chasing this problem, ended up being the module in the dissy.

Had the same thing years ago on a chev. p/u the module would heat up and shut down when it cooled off start right up this module was brand new put the old one back in and never looked back. (thats what gets me the auto stores won't take things like this back even when they are bad there bad product, and I have to pay for it) as they say, they get the gold mine and I get the shaft.----BOB

got a respond to this with an off the wall suggestion. I went through this same experience several years ago with a 65 GMC. All the same MSD equipment installed on the truck. I read this to my wife and she cracked up. We got stranded every time we went anywhere on a cruise with the club. It is crazy, but have you checked the fuel filter. I chased this problem for months, checked the fuel and was always getting fuel. Problem was the filter was partially plugged, when the truck died the fuel would build up and would look like there was a good fuel flow. The truck ran beautiful for upto 50 miles then would start acting up. Replaced the fuel filter, no more problems. Give it a try, it just may work.
