Rear End Swap!!!
Hi,
Can anyone tell me if a 1978 Stock firebird rear will fit in a 67 stock firebird?? Thanks, Mike |

B-man is correct. It will fit, but only after some spring perch mods. Your best bet is to find an 8.5 out of an early 70's Nova. It's a direct bolt in. I did this on my 67 Bird. The brakes will also swap over. The only other issues are a conversion u-joint, and shortening the driveshaft. Try eBay, racing junk, Craigslist, or some Camaro forums. The 10 bolt 8.5 isn't too tough to find and should be relatively cheap. I got mine for $150.

Thanks for the response. What advantage would there be for upgrading to a 12 bolt rear?? Not looking to race just a nice cruiser.

For a cruiser, none.
The 8.5" 10-bolt rivals the strength of the 8.875" 12-bolt rear, they both actually use the same pinion bearing. |
Thanks for the advice

8.5's are great rear ends, and a lot cheaper than the 12 bolts you see for sale. |
