New Sheetmetal Questions?
SO, I'm in the middle of this resto for my 67 Tempest Custom and I need to order some sheetmetal. I made a quick draft of a dozen or so companies that sell the misc parts I need. Sadly, our host, is priced higher than most on every part I need. (mostly floors, trunk, tail, rear filler, quarters, etc.)
I'm trying to place a huge order and want to get the best deal possible and I'd especially like to try to save as much as possible on shipping as well. My question is, are there any differences in metal sold by each company and is there one that is negotiable on prices when a bulk purchase is made? |
Beware of less expensive sheet metal. They are NOT all the same. Here is a prime example of you get what you pay for. Most is made in China and wont fit right without much tweaking. :gag: The metal is also most definitely a thinner gauge than original.
Insist on, and only buy, AMD Sheet Metal and you wont be sorry. just my :2cents: |

Good Info. I did not realize PY would match prices.. I'll need to call them and see. I'd prefer to order from one reputable company. Most of the stuff I was looking at was from AMD and some from Dynacorn.
Thanks for the info.:D |
Please let us know what the results are.

sheet metal
most of my sheetmetal came from ames, back then that was the only company i knew that sold what i had to have, i know better now, most was goodmark brand, everything fit good but nothing is perfect, thats why i hired a body man to do my final fit and paint, nice thing about doing a car now over 5 years ago replacement sheetmetal has come along way, my trunk floor was 7 pieces now 1, my floor was 2 pieces plus i had to install new cross braces now you can buy a 1 piece. well good luck. jd grim 66 GTO

try to arrange to meet with the vendor at a major swap meet in your area, save alot on shipping.
|
I'm in Lexington, KY. I have not seen any swap meets that are close and attended by the big Pontiac Parts vendors. Are there some relatively close by that I am not aware of?
Please advise, I'll hold off on the order if I can save some dough on the shipping. |
Charlotte Autofair might be the closest one to Lexington that I can think of offhand.

So here's the update:
After searching and calling all of the potential vendors, this is what I have found.... 1. Many of the vendors don't even answer the phone; 2. Some of the vendors actually wanted to argue with me on prices; 3. Many of the vendors did not have a very good selection; 4. And finally, that our Host PY is the real deal!!!! I called today on my way home from work and spoke with Pam. She knew more than any other "sales rep" I've spoken with from any other company. She was patient with me as I was trying to drive and recall all of the parts I needed and my inquiries about price matching, discounts, and shipping. And she managed to get nearly everything in my order price matched- saving me a good amount of cash. I'm actually contemplating on adding more to my order as I speak... If you have any doubts, don't. Customer service has been perfect! I am hoping the quality of the parts is as good as the customer service. I will report when everything arrives... Thanks again to PAM at PY:D:usa2: |
