quick question: long time first time
 

Hey guys,

Im always ready your post, love the forum. I have a 1971 firebird and im picking up a 73 455.

Do you think or have you ever put a poncho 455 in the back of a tahoe without barn doors? Im at the office and cant meassure right now but i figured I'd ask. i dont know if even the shorts chain on a hoist would fit.

Just the engine, or with a transmission installed? I don't have a Tahoe but I'd think it would fit fine, the only problem may be lifting it high enough with your hoist to get over the tailgate and into the truck.

You say without side by side doors, so it's got a tailgate with flip up rear glass, I'd use a engine crane and rest it on 3/4 inch piece of plywood and sit it on the gate and slide it inside the back of the Tahoe. If need be use a 3 foot piece of 2X4 to persuade it inside.

You'll never do it if you still have the transmission attached IMO.

I've done it with a 400 in the back of my Jeep GC. It was a tight fit and just squeeked in with the engine hoist. I blocked it after I got it in, and then set the engine on the blocks. Thought I'd ruin the spare tire cover but I didn't. You should have more room than the Jeep does... but be careful all the same. Good luck.

My buddy just hauled an Oldsmobile 455 without tranny attached to it in the back of a Volvo station wagon, I'd bet that the Poncho mill will fit in the back of your Tahoe
