W72 400 Block
Fellas,
Picked up a 68 GTO parts car that came with a W72 short block - 481988 block with the XX in the valley. X7 stamp (automatic). November/December 1977 date code. I realize these blocks are supposed to be a bit stronger, and I need a 400 block for my Lemans convt, so I guess this one would work. Only thing I don't know is if there are folks searching for W72 blocks for restorations, so should I sell this one and use something else? Thanks, Scott |
I'll be damn. I just found a similar block in the local ads, and just asked the exact same question ;)

It might be worth your time $$ to post it ...

Do you still have your X7 block?

Long gone.

Sorry guys. Forgot to update here. The carb and intake sold. There is sale pending on the rest.

The XX481988 block was a recast of the 1971-1974 481988 block. The XX481988 block was used in 1978 and 1979 W72's...though all 1979 XX481988 blocks were cast in 1977 (nov 77).
