78 Firebird, Air Cleaner help...
 

I'm working on a 78 Firebird for a friend and it currently has a shaker hood and the original owner mounted the scoop to the hood, very poorly, don't even ask, it makes me sick!

Anyhow, are the parts available to mount the scoop to the carb the proper way?

But a bigger question is, the Pontiac 400 that is in it, has a Edelbrock Torker II intake and a Holley 600, with that combo would the shaker setup even fit under the hood?

That's WHY they mounted the shaker to to the hood......

Most aftermarket intake & carb combo's won't give correct shaker location/height.

You need to TOSS all of that aftermarket CRAP!

The stock intake manifold will outperform ANY aftermarket intake for a street application & quadrajets are THE choice for a fast,dependable car that WON'T burst into flames arbitrarily....:jumping:

I just read on the Edelbrock site that the Torker II intake will not fit under a TA shaker hood.

It looks like he can use a Edelbrock Performer but I think before he goes that route, he'd rather find a different way to mount the scoop.

Any suggestion on how to mount the scoop to the hood?

Trust me, this guy got very creative when he mounted the scoop :eek:

Some people should not be able to pick up a tools!

I was thinking about taking some panel bond and either attaching four studs to the underside of the hood and bolt the scoop to them or just flat out, panel bond the scoop to the underside of the hood.

I don't want to try and weld anything because of the paint, so that option is out.

Torker II WITH a 3/8 spacer fits under my hood with a correct Shaker base. Good enough for high 10s@124mph.

If you have the base on the scoop you can get Larry Navaro's WFO air cleaner base from him or I think Butler that will give enough clearance for even a taller RPM intake.

That's the problem, he has nothing other then the shaker hood and scoop for this car and he can't find the parts to mount the scoop to the carb, so I just got a call from him and he said he'd like me to find a better way to mount the scoop to the hood and then he'll just use a 14" drop based air cleaner.

He really wanted to have a factory shaker hood setup but if it's not available, what do you do, except go to plan "B"???

Just curious....do you think the Edeltork intake has ANYTHING to do with getting you into the 10's,other than the weight savings? :D
