Speedworld Dragstrip - zoning issues
I ask all PYers here to sign this petition, it will be sent to the county board of Supervisors to keep Speedworld open. We need to keep all the drag strips we have.
http://signon.org/sign/keep-speedwor...b&r_by=4712108 thank you, |
We need this track in Arizona, thanks steve for your letting us know about this.

Petition signed. Good luck Steve. Similar type issues here in Ohio with a strip opened in 1959. New owners are fighting to keep it open and keep local government happy. Over 400 cars typically on a test and tune night. Doesn't matter when one hater is in the right position in local government and wants it gone or if a wealthy developer wants the land for another project. Keep up the fight.

A little more looking into this, I see the newspaper used a very misleading headline...
Not sure if everyone who read the article understands the issue here. It does not seem to have anything to do with politics, bs, favoritism, etc. There are zoning and permit requirements almost everywhere. People seem to like lots of restrictions on their life, HOAs are a great example. Anyway, apparantely Speedworld violated or bypassed some required permits and that is the issue. I have not seen anything written that these issues cannot be remedied. Years back, when I bought my acreage intending to own hundreds of old cars, I went through the process of a formal, or hard, zone change. With the proper zoning, you still need a permit of some type to be able to perform your intention. In my case, it is called an "IUP" or industrial use permit. You can only get an IUP if you have proper zoning. I have now gone through this process twice so, am pretty familiar with the procedures. Speedworld has the proper zoning so, it seems from reading that the permits are either not current or not applicable for his use. Speedworld did expand their vendues considerably and normally, these permits are pretty specfic. that is probably the issue based on what I read. It is my hope that the board of supervisors will allow the use of the facility while they get their act in line but, that is not normal to do so. Why he did not go through the formal permit process at the proper time is a mystery to me. We'll see. I am as much a fan of Speedworld as anyone and have hosted drags there since 1998. Am hoping everything will work out fine. It does not look like the county has not done anything out of line. If there is a zoning or pemit violation, there has to be some sort of action taken whether it is Speedworld or your neighbor having garage sales twice a week for a year. I have not read anything about a permanent closure, just a closer until rules and permits are confirmed to. If that is the case, that is reasonable. Am hoping everything will get back to normal soon for everyones benefit. I do not see the track in danger of a permanent closure as the paper article alludes to. If anyone sees otherwise, please explain here specifically. __________________ |
I signed the petition and noted how my family and I attended the Pontiac Heaven event at the track in March. I stated that the event was the only reason that we went down there. I also said that we were planning to attend the BOP event this fall but if the track is not open, we will not be down there spending money...

Steve...as much as I am in agreement with you on this Speedworld affair, I refuse to sign any petition that requires I receive email and other notifications from the radical socialist left wing organization MoveOn.org
Whomever set up this petititon should have used a little more forethought before putting it on a site serviced by MoveOn.org |

Sign it you old toot! Read and you will find out that it is easy to opt out.
That said.....this petition was built by moveon.org. Leftest, liberal, communist, company. So you can't really believe what they write can you. |
Or misspell your email address. I seem to have included an extra digit in mine when I signed. :)
|
Done.
We actually rented the track for a private test session back when we lived in Arizona (1990- 1994). There were only two other cars there besides me that day. IIRC that was when I first broke into the 10's. Good times. K |

signed it, did not realize it was from Move on.org, now i feel dirty and have to shower.
|
I also refused to sign the petition because it had moveon.org origins. I went ahead and signed it but added a couple extra numbers to my email. The LAST thing i want is crap sent from them!
|
Well.......adding anything to your e-mail address will not help. When you hit the send button moveon.org will capture your real address.
