Beer Tasting
 

Went to a beer tasting in Cincinnatti last night at Jungle Jims. First time I've went to one, and had a great time.

50 vendors and over 350 beers. Just about every kind of beer you could imagine was there. My vote goes to Sam Adams Oak Ale, runner up to Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale.

Seven of us went, and five agreed that the Sam Adams was the best. Probably no BS that they win awards for their beer like they say on the commercials. Their Oak Ale was "top shelf", too bad it is only made in very limited quantities......Cliff

I don't know if they have Boulevard beer yet in your area, but it is becoming major beer brewer in the midwest, and is starting to expand to the east and west coasts. But it is brewed here in KC, and in my opinion is one of the best.

Didn't see them represented there. There were breweries from all over the World there, quite a few from Germany, and half a dozen from right here in Ohio.....Cliff

Cliff, yea never heard of the Oak Ale..I was going to say must be a very limited run. Sam Adams makes some nice beer but they're becoming the "BUD" of micro brewers.

Beer tasting and you can still make a post. Cliff you are the man! :D

Jim, you really don't want to be me, I absolutely REFUSE to grow up!.....LOL.

I made it thru 25 out of 50 breweries, and had to take a break. Deb, who drinks enough for both of us, went thru all 50 without a glitch, and still walked to the vehicle on her own power!

Figuring each brewery had half a dozen or so offerings, and were pretty generous with the portions...that's a LOT of beer!.......Cliff

Not much of a beer drinker. However is someone is having a scotch tasting I could get into that.

Oak ale is good stuff. I dont drink much but I like it, and its local for the most part can get the off season beer in the other season sometimes. there must be vanilla in it too. May have my wife pick some up now that I see this thread LOL Tried it in April at my inlaws from an assorted beer package

How many have taken brewery tours?
So far, over the years, we've been to Budweiser Jacksonville FL, and St Louis MO, Miller and Pabst in Milwaukee, Stevens Point, in WI, G Heilman in Lacrosse, WI, Rolling Rock in Latrobe, PA, Minhas in Monroe, WI, New Glarus,in WI, Oldenberg, in Kentucky, and Hudepoehl in Cincinatti. Some of those aren't even around these days, others we've made several visits to.

We did a tour to the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel brewery earlier this year. It started out at Jungle Jim's in Cincinnatti, couple hour bus ride to the brewery, drinking all the beer you wanted the entire way. Factory tour, lunch, drinking all the beer you wanted, bus ride to the Race track to bet on horses, more beer to drink. My wife and daughter won over $400 betting horses. More beer on the trip home.....and all for $30 per person!......Cliff

Driving thru upstate NY the other day I heard a commercial on the radio for an upcoming "Wine Tasting Antique and Classic Car Cruise".

Pearl used to have a brewery in Saint Joseph, Missouri. It was my sales account when I lived in KC. Same with Schlitz. Had a brewery in Kansas City and was my sales account as well. When Schlitz closed the brewery down the company I worked for bought a building from them and we moved in.

Both breweries had great golf tournaments and lots of beer tasting.

Ah....the good old days.

Anybody from the Pittsburgh area here? My oldest works in the Church Brew Works microbrewery. Pursuing his dream. He has brewed a couple of his own recipes. Just a proud dad putting a plug in.

I favor creamy stouts but will drink anything I haven't tried before. Lite beers only if that is all ya got.
