Is this a engine worth building on?
 

Hello,

I have had a engine in the garage for a while and now it seems the time is right to do something with it.
I can not find any information about the block itself, and would much appreciate input regarding this, and what power it would manage. Cause I've read that some blocks after -75 are not as good as the other?

The codes i'v found are:
(distributor)
K084 (8 november 1974)

(top front passenger side)

YS (automatic around 180hp)

(front passenger side by water pump)

just behind where the pass side heads bolts on will be another cast number. that is the one we need to see to be sure.

Going off the vin number It's from a 75 firebird, built at Norwood.

It should be the early '75 block, 481988. Sounds like a good starting point.

Will check the other cast number as 1971 Warbird describes next time in garage. (Garage is 31 miles away) I'll get back with that info. Thanks guys!

if you look at the upper left picture you can see a casting number on a ram air V block.

I can now confirm (My sister checked it out) that I have the code 481988 stamped at the block. (Facing passenger below head)

that is the better thick casting block. a good starting point for a build, stock or bigger stroke.

The block is already bored .030 over (Some badger pistons was in it)
I have block and water pump ass, and the old crank (do not have numbers on that).
I need heads, crank (Maby?), camshaft, lifters, intake manifold, carburator etc.

I have been looking at e-heads... and think roller lifters would be good.. (or not?)

Now i need a path to go so I know what stuff to get.

My main goal is a strong street engine that I can rely on. Using pump gas. And maby try to go 402m with. :-) An engine I can grow with if you know what I mean.

Meanwhile I use my 68 350 H.O.

Any recommendations?

Hmm ya. I have 3.42 in the rear and stock converter to the th350 and runs RA manifolds and a dual 2.5'' exhaust from pypes.
