Street Legal Bumper Cars
Check out these Street Legal Bumper Cars in CA. http://gbodyforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=210798
Quote from email I received about these Bumper Cars: "Where Do Old Bumper Cars go? The ones in Coney Island and Rockaway Park back in the 20's thru to the 50's ran on electric . Had a pole on the back going to a metal electrical charged overhead plate. I remember driving the bumper cars at amusement parks or a fair, back when I was a kid. They were so much fun..... Well, now what do you do with old Bumper Cars? (check out the license plates!) WHO KNEW? Yes, you read that right; these little beasties are street legal. They run on either Kawasaki or Honda motorcycle engines and co-opt vintage bumper car bodies into the most awesome form of mini-car we've seen in too long. There are seven of these little monsters floating around California and they're all the creation of one man, Tom Wright, a builder in the outskirts of San Diego who figured the leftovers of the Long Beach Pike amusement park needed a more dignified end than the trash heap." They look like a blast and would be great at a Cruise-IN. A friend of mine saw them at a Cruise-In in Escondido, CA when he was visiting CA. Pretty Kool I wish I knew if he sold them and for how much $$$ |
my neighbor is about 2/3rd's of the way thru restoring one for the street like that. I had never heard of them being converted to street use until that.

That is kinda cool.

That's way cool.

They look fantastic. Would love to have one for shows. When I was a kid in the 70's the bumper cars still ran on the pole up to the electric plate above. They are also called "Dodgems" around these parts.
|
They were called "Dodgems" around here, as well. I think that might have been the name the manufacturer gave them.
I don't know about driving one of them, particularly in California, I'd be afraid some nut would have a flashback and start running into you. |
Those are flat out cool!

I saw them at the same car show in Escondido... I was checking out the regular cars and saw a bumper car drive by and had to do a double take! I found a whole group of them parked together. I didn't have my camera but all I can say is that they were awesome.
I may need one. |
They are wayyyyyy cool! I would put the upright pole on though! What great kid memories, Long Beach Island, New Jersey in the early to mid 60's!!!!!!!!!

Very cool.
If you put the poles on the back you have to make them give off sparks to keep with tradition!

We have a great cruise here. Something different every week.
