Sticker! In my yard how to get rid of em?
 

Bought a house last winter and started a remodel while I still Have the option to live with my mom, well this Summer I've found that the yard has some crazy sticker patches all over. Not acceptable to me nor my dogs. Being 22 I've never really had to deal with with this, so I'm looking for advice from those wiser than I in this. How do I kill em?

When we bought our house last year, we had the same issue. They are tough to kill and take time.

All I've ever heard them called is stickers, maybe a back hills Oklahoma slang term for em.


Lawn stickers, also known as Tribulus terrestris, puncture vine, goathead, caltrop (which means “spiky weapon”) and yellow vine, is a flowering plant on the family Zygophyllacaea. They like warm temperate and grow in tropical regions in Europe, southern Asia, Africa and northern Australia. They are considered weeds.

Id trade those for sandspurs any day
Im overrun with sandspurs,filled a 50 gal trash can with them last year
looks like just as may again this year.

We call them stickers here in Pa. too. :( Had a bunch growing from the woods around my house onto my yard. I rented a pole chainsaw and cut them off at the root - that killed them. Let em dry out a few weeks then I rented a small tractor and just pushed them back into the woods. Don't bother with a chipper - if they're like the ones I had it won't pull them in.

If you got a lot of them, maybe rent a small backhoe to get the roots out.

Yeah, if you get hung up on them, you'll know how they got their name!

Cut em off at ground level, burn what you cut, and douse the exposed trunk with Round-up.

If the trunk is big enough, drill as many holes straight down as you can, then fill those holes with Round up.

a touch of kerosene on exposed trunk will kill it for good

"Sticker bushes" here too in SE Pa. A friend from central Pa. (Harrisburg) calls them "jagger bushes". I suppose the bushes have huge lips in Harrisburg. :eek:

The correct application of fire will solve this issue. Just don't get carried away!
