buying car from salvage yard, No title, how to get one
 

looking at a 91 firebird from a local salvage yard /used car lot, its a great deal but they dont have a title for it because it was just dropped off at the lot. I think I can get a bill of sale from them but thats it. I ran the carfax on it but it didnt give me the Previous owners name to go that route.

any ideas on what to do?

VIN number to the DMV or a cop to find the last registered owner.

He didnt participate in the program and the car has been there a while.
Theres a title service in OKC that can get me a title for 100$ but Id like to do it on my own if possible

If you can get a title for $100.00, do it!!!

I'll give them a ring tomorrow and be sure that they still charge that much.

If you know the owner, why don't you try and get info from him...maybe a title?? Not trying ot be a smart a** but the previous owner must have something.

Those cars had to be crushed in a certain amount of time withing the junk yard receiving them. And within the dealer taking them in trade. Those cars are long gone by now.

I had a friend who was a mechanic for a dealership when the "cash for clunkers" thing was going on. This is what he told me from the dealership telling him. All the cars being traded in on the cash for clunkers their motors had to be destroyed if it was running. No car received could leave the lot running and drained of all their fluids. This was some goverment rule for the dealersips cause the cars were going to be crushed immediatly.

I meant the owner as in the owner of the car lot/yard, the PO drug the car there and left it several years ago.

Anyways, I called a local title service and theyll get me the title for 100$ clean and clear in my name.

unless he transferred the title...it should still be in his name. If he signed it over to the scrapper...good luck! I found a RA IV '69 GTO with another car stacked on top...otherwise...not bad! Owner of the yard said "Once they come in here...they never leave! Just sayin'. Ron
