68 GTO KICKDOWN from PREFORMANCE YEARS

I have a 68 GTO with auto th400 trans. lately I see there is little to no kickdown in the trans. Took out the switch and found no racheting action , used to be there and hold position, but now nothing. ordered a replacement from PYears # GMI233 fits from 67 to76. found that the new switch has no racheting action and will not hold position when moved by hand, just slides fwd all the way and snaps back to middle position. When I spoke to the tech rep, he said that was correct and that there was no adjustment required. I have read here more than once that there is in fact an adjustment (unlock tab, move switch all the way foward, floor gas petal 1 time) as per Schurkey's post of 5-29-12, therer is most certainly a rachet action. what am I missing?????? told rep to check forums. thanks, z man
IS THIS THE CORRECT SWITCH? I WANTED TO RETURN BUT SEE THAT NOT ONLY WILL SHIPPING CHARGES BE LOST BUT ALSO A RESTOCKING FEE. ( BY THE WAY, SWITCH HOUSING IS RUSTY) SPOKE TO MIKE IN TECH TODAY AND HAD TO EXPLAIN THE ADJUSTMENT OF THE SWITCH TO HIM. MY NAME IS NICK 718-843-2421 THANKS

mike, thanks for your help and research. i now realize that an adjustment is not required and that travel of the petal will dictate the making of contact to downshift. z man
