Is this '76 TA worth $16,500?

I found this:

http://bham.craigslist.org/cto/3163774107.html

This car is largely original, but being so...has age problems. I've seen nice TA's that have largely been restored, for about the $16K-$18K price range....and this car needs work IMHO.

Just with the market today, wondering what a realistic offer on this should be....something in the $10-$11K range tops? I'd think you'd need easily $2K to get the interior redone, not sure how much to fix the passenger side window, and not sure about the power steering leak.

Any ideas, on what this is really worth offering, considering the problems with it? (and please consider, I'm not a mechanic....yet.)

youll get a lot more info in the firebird section, there are guys in there that dont even look at the lobby...put it in the tech section, youll get realistic ideas..

That car has been on there on and off for a looooooooooooong time.

I thought that was against the rules?

Well, I thought that if I asked this in the classifieds section...that I might get my account suspended or banned....at least that was my read on the sticky there...?

cayenne

He meant the firebird tech section, not the for sale section.

Moving it there now.

Seems like it needs a lot of stuff for 16,500. Too high, IMHO.

I think your offer of 10-12K is pretty fair. Interesting car that is PW and AC but radio delete??

If he has had it for a few years, my guess is that he is asking way more than he paid. These cars seem to still be going up.

Thanks.

I'm just starting my search....and trying to get a 'feel' for what the prices are on these things for what condition they're in, etc.

I was hoping (and I'd read some opinons that it is)...that with the economy right now, that prices would be down, and it would be a bit more of a buyers market on these things.

Then again, there is the age and rarity of them too starting to really kick in these days....

Looking at this TA...the interior looks like it would mostly need to be replaced/re-furbed.

Is it hard to find replacement dashes, consoles...etc, or is there a good reproduction market out there for these? If repros are available...do they come in all the colors needed, or do you buy them and have to paint them?

Any ideas on what this power steering leak might be, and how much that would cost to have someone find and fix it?

Thank you,

cayenne

It is a buyer's market...Problem is, most of the sellers don't know that...lol
By the way, is that green garden hose he's got under the hood? ....Surely not but whatever it is, it's a bit distracting.

cant knock the car without physically looking at it, but that color combo is just beautiful and then with the 455 4 speed. very nice and not alot of them that color combo either.

They don't repro a dash - I have no experience w/ repairs, but I seen some decent dash caps that look good. Most of the other interior parts are repro'd. Can get expensive if you need too much.

I wouldn't sweat the PS leak. That happens pretty commonly and rebuilt units are easy to install..

Good luck - 76 is my favorite year. Especially the 455 cars.

Unless they have stopped production, Repro dashes are being manufactured. I got one earlier this year from Classic. http://www.classicindustries.com/fir.../10018005.html Right around $450 shipped with discounts, some people have gotten better deals though.

Wow, I am shocked to hell. There was talk of repro dashes for years. Did not know they came through. Pray tell, let us know about quality and fit.

drtracer58 08-12-2012 07:28 AM

They are Back Ordered, No ETA .........

I have installed mine and overall I am very happy with the fit and look so I think it's a quality piece. I haven't had to do any tweaking as others have stated. I haven't put my glove box door or ashtray in yet but other have said the blacks don't match up and they have had to color match the glove box doors. More has been posted on them over on TAC
