1968 Olds Delmont 88
 

About 5-6 years ago an older couple asked if I could store and help them sell their Oldsmobile. I have finally messed with it and got it running. It is a 4 door sedan with 455 Rocket V-8, auto, AC, pwr steering.
I put in a new battery, changed the gas, changed the oil, cleaned the Master Cylinder bowls, replaced fluid, aired the tires and filled the PS fluid and drove it 15-16 miles in the country. I was surprised at how strong it ran.
They can no longer drive and want to sell it. I have no need for it. Any idea of it's value?

455 or 425 V-8? I didn't think the 455 came out til 69.

Condition means everything.

No 425s in 1968 as 68' was the first year of 455s in Oldsmobiles. A little more info such as mileage and overall condition would help, but a picture would really help.

I will get it out tomorrow and get some pictures posted. Sheepish about saying this...but the old boat is starting to grow on me.

Only because of the great condition it's in.

i would get online like ebay and clist and check some prices of what people are asking for similar condition cars, roughly in the same year. a low mileage original like that is worth something, but its a real niche market. check kelly blue book and nada and like hagerty for values and appraisals.

that 455 was an option in that car, so thats a bonus for a collector..and it runs strong cuz its a hi compression no smog engine...:)

Don't see many key carriers like that anymore! That is really clean, shame its a 4 door.

Nothing wrong with a 4dr... Especially if you have children... The 455 is a bonus, it can probably hold its own out on the street with all the cookie cutter cars.

The current owner has filled me in on the whole story of the Delmont 88. I thought it was neat enough to share.
The original owner traded in a '63 Olds 4 door Sedan (trade in value $1553.28) for the 1968 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 (priced at $4413.28). The Dealer was Helwick Motors, Ellsworth KS and the deal was done in August 1968. They have the original invoice from the dealer. There was also a notation for HVY Duty Undercoat $35 and Polish-glaze for $15 and printed to the side...... No Charge
Once the original owner could no longer drive, another couple would take him for rides in the country every week or so. He always insisted that they use his car to take them ('68 Delmont 88). When his health no longer allowed for the chauffeured outings he went to a nursing home and titled the car over to the chauffeuring couple, also elderly.
They drove it for a short time and then it broke down and wouldn't start and they couldn't really afford to have it chk'd, so they just left it in a neighboring garage (that was sometime in '04) until the garage sold and they had to move it. They asked me if I knew any place it could be stored temporarily and I volunteered to store it a short while (That was in '08). The owners also told me to let them know of any offers, 'cause it was for sale.
Finally last month I got a friend to help me try to get it running so it could be better sold. Bought a new battery, cleaned the points, put in new gas and it finally ran!
I just thought it was an interesting story about an old car. By the way, the original Olds Protecto-Plate & Owners manual were in the glove box also.

love all the stories and history to a car! old pics, repair slips, i have the pics of my dads 1973 delta 88 the day he brought it home from the dealer--was washing it and my mom took pics..(i was like 2 1/2)..i have the original dealer metal license bkt, and the tiny keychain that looks like a minitature license plate! too bad i dont have the window sticker, or the original 73 plates..:( but at least i have the car..29,000 mile original, still sitting in my dads heated garage..still smells like new inside and last time it was legally on the road was 1979..:)

Put a number on it. I have folks who are die hard Oldsmobile enthusiasts. Difficult to help sell it without a price? How many miles on it?......Cliff

I forgot to include the milage. The speedometer works and it shows 10,791 miles. I'm positive that it's probably rolled over once.

You might consider listing it on the AACA forums in the Oldsmobile For Sale section as that is where a lot of Olds diehards hang out.

What a neat old car. Buffed out I bet it would look like new.

If it was a 1967 Delmont 88, the Kennedy's may have been interested.

Cool car, my grandparents had a late 60's Olds 4 door but I can't remember what year. Light blue with blue interior, that car rode great on the highway.
