67 326 in a 63 tempest

Question; will a 67 326 bolt up to a 1963 Tempest that has a 195 four? what needs to be changed if it can be done?

There are many differences in the engine mounts, torque tube/shaft and trans between the 4 and 8 cyl Tempests. Differences in the starter mounts, crankshafts, etc between early and late 326's. Some things are easier to overcome if you have a stick shift car. Lots of information in this forum on swaps.

I had the same thoughts of swapping a 64 326 ho into a 63 with a 3 speed. Idea scrapped, too many things to change to make the V8 work.... I'm leaving mine a 4 cyl............... Gas costs too much anyway, how many 8-12 mpg cars can one own.....

I own several since I can drive only one at a time anyway.

BTW, I'm driving my 63 on a 1000 mile trip right now. So far 19-21 mpg 65-75 mph. Just sayin......

Thats about what I get with my 4 cyl 1bbl on the highway. Enjoy the ride!:usa2:

x2 for the 1bbl. A 4-4-4bbl in good tune will get a few more, I usually get 24/hwy.

In 1963, a '63 Tempest V8 won the Mobil Economy Run, LA to Detroit, 2373 Miles in 6 days.

Average MPG was 21.13.

The 4 cyl did pretty good too, averaging 27.31 MPG.

How do I know this?
I own one of the winners certificates for the V8 car, and the 4cyl car's performance is posted here:

Those times are probably impossible to duplicate now. Today's blended gas formula is less efficient.

Amazing numbers especially considering that 50yrs later, after thousands of dollars worth of computers and R&D technology have been added to the price of each car, we have how many cars capable of carrying 6 people and luggage and get over 27mpg!?

I'd love to know how you came to be in posession of that certificate if you'd care to share.

Yep, pretty amazing.
Those Mobil Run cars were probably all manual trans cars.

But I seem to remember the Tempest driveline, and the automatic cars in particular, were promoted as low friction loss drivelines.

I got my certificate from a collector who knew the dealership.
