diff. gear ratio ?

Trying to figure out what gear ratio to use in my car.
68 bird with a 400 motor and 350 trans.
I want the best of both worlds if thats possable.
I would like a good low end off the line but still be good for cruising.
Any ideas?????

A 3:08 gear is a great cruiser gear, and not bad with the torque of a 400. A 3:55 is about tops for the street. I would think a 3:23 or 3:36 would be ideal, but I would not shy from the 3:08.

355

a nice combo is the 355 or 390 with an OD trans 200 4R
its worth the change from a 350
Otherwise a 323 or 336 gear would be tops with the th350

I have and like them alot, rpm not too high on highway, but high enough ! Good low end grunt from a standstill.

I have 355s in my 68 Bird and will soon be replacing the TH400 with a 200-4r. I do a lot of highway cruising and got sick of staring at 3500rpm.

3.23 if your driving is more city-oriented.

3.08 if you take highway trips more often.
