67-68 Firebird 400 Hoods
What is the difference between the 67 and 68 hoods? Also can I use a 67 hood on a 68 latch? I have a chance to get a nice hood but its a 67 . Thanks.

difference lies in the part that gets "catched" by the latch. It will work with a 68 latch but it is really not recommended. You need a 67 latch for it to work correctly. If you search, this has been discussed thoroughly. Get your hands on this '67 hood quick. Frank.

under hood bracing is completely different too

The 68 latch will not work with the 67 hood catch. A 67 latch will work with 67-69 hoods. You can mod the 68 latch to work though.

my 67 400 hood is too hard to get to right now. If so look in the middle of hood where the bracing makes a U.( or X actually) |
and I might add the safety is added to the 68 and newer where you need to push down and detent the latch to release the safety.
This was a good idea for those that didnt check to see the hood was properly closed before driving,could have even been mandated. |
Thanks for the info. Picked up the hood today its great no rust at all but a small dent. Can anyone post the latch opening in a 67 and a 68 hood to show the difference. I don't know if its a 67 or a 68 hood. Hood is going on a number's matching 68 400.

67 latch area is almost flat
68-9 is slanted Im sure there are pics posted here somewhere |
