GTO restoration guide?

Today I was introduced to a friend of a friend, who was supposedly involved with an interesting Pontiac project. They led me out to the barn and showed me two things: a pile of '70 GTO-specific parts (nose, hood, trim, interior, etc) and a '70 Tempest roller.

Seems that years ago, the friend-of-a-friend had a Goat that got rear-ended hard. They decided that it was beyond repair, so they towed it into the barn, stripped it, and sent the carcass off to be crushed. After a recent vacation down south, it seems the stripper Tempest followed them home. The plan is to "clone" it to be reminiscent of the car that was destroyed (not my thing, but hey... it's your car).

The friend-of-a-friend had apparently heard I was a Pontiac guy, and had a million questions. I know my GPs head to toe, but I'm not at all learned in A-body trivia.

Most of the questions are simple, "which of these trim pieces is correct for a GTO?" type questions. But some are more complicated - i.e., the Tempest was an auto/bench car, the GTO was a 4-spd/console car, "so what parts do I all need if I'm running a TH400, switching to a console, and want it all to be factory correct?".

I'd like to point them to a restoration / originality guidebook. Is there any such thing you guys could recommend?

Although not all inclusive, the book I've pictured below has been very helpful for me in identifying several details on my '70 GTO. I also have another book titled "GTO RED BOOK" (Pontiac GTO 1964-1974) that could be helpful to you as well.

I don't think the GTORG covers parts interchange but it is a good reference for gathering the right parts and assembling. You would be better off posting questions on here, lots of experience and knowledge on this board.

A copy of the 1970 GTO Assembly Manual off Ebay would be helpful. Sometimes I take the pages I need and get them copied 4x larger.

I don't know if the factory Assembly Manual is available for that year but it can be a huge help in such matters. It tells down to the individual component in many cases whether the parts illustrated are '242 Only' parts or otherwise.
