Chroming Companies

I am searching for a company that can re-chrome parts, does good quality work, and won't rob you blind. I do believe that when it comes to quality work you get what you pay for. I am in Southeast Missouri so the closer the better to save in shipping. I am looking for a place that can re-chrome my Hurst shifter stick, rear tail panel on a 65 GTO that runs between the tail lights, and other miscellaneous stuff. I might even re-chrome the bumpers some day.

I so far have found a company out of Tennessee http://www.advancedplating.com/
and one out of Illinois http://www.thechromeshop.com/
But I have not been able to find any reviews on their work.

Anyone with real world experience with any company that does chrome plating I would appreciate your recommendations.

Thanks for any advice,
Dale

I have had good luck with Ogden Chrome out of Utah. Shipping to and from them is included in the price and they send Fedex to pick up your parts. Turned around my 64 GTO bumpers in 3 weeks including shipping to and from Utah from Texas. Plating was very good quality in my opinion.

Advanced Plating is known to be one of the best but their prices are generally quite high.

A friend of mine used these guy for his Harley parts. He seemed really impressed with the price and turn around time. I live close enough to drop my bumpers and other parts off in the near future... They are located in Ft Wayne Indiana...

Mike,
Let me know what you think of their work once you get the parts back.
Thanks,
Dale

I really appreciate the information on who to avoid. They will definitely get put on the "not to use" list.
Thanks,
Dale

I've used Advanced in Tenn. for years, excellent quality, excellent warranty but by no means cheap.

Chrome in Mo.

I had all the chrome work on my roadster done at a shop in Independance Mo. Very good work. I don't know how the prices compare with other's. They seem to be plenty busy, so some seem to like them. Billk

I use AIH in Dubuque Iowa for potmetal. Scott Tieman has used them in the past. It takes about a month to get the firm price once they get your package and then 6 to 8 weeks after that to complete the work depending on the size of the job. Once done your parts are guaranteed for life. I have a pair of '61 big car headlight bezels they did for me and they look like jewelry. They currently have several pieces off of a '63 big car and they are due back any day now. Their number is 800-782-8235.

Do you remember the name of the shop? That is across the state for me but shipping might be reasonable.
Thanks,
Dale

A and A plating, 9400 E. Wilson Rd. Independance Mo. 64053, 800-747-9914

http://www.aaplating.com/

I took my load of stuff there and they gave me a price on the spot. Its been a couple of years, but they had 2 levels of plating, standard and "show". The Show is double the cost of the standard. I went with standard, as that's what they said most people did. I was very happy with the quality. Billk

I sent several pot metal pieces and a His/Her shifter stick to Paul's Chrome Plating in Evans City, PA. 800-245-8679 They did an excelent job on everything, I think they look better than new. They photograph every piece and send you an estimate to replate if you decide not to have any of the parts done they ship them back to you. Not cheap took about 8 to 9 weeks. I just sent several parts to Charles Jones in Snellville GA 2 days ago will let you know prices later. chromeplatingshop.com

How about Sandy's Bumper Mart in Syracuse NY ? They are very close to me and I need to get a 68 GTO rear bumper chromed.
I'm only looking for OEM quality, I think show quality would stand out way to much.
Thanks,
JohnnyB

dont know if they are still in business but DONT use Potmetal restorations of Fla.
They will ruin you irreplaceable part and say tough luck. Its got to be the worst Ive ever been treated as a customer in the 40+ yrs Ive been restoring cars.
