Arrrrrgh! 15" Rally II trim rings
 

I've got 15x7" Rally IIs and can't find a reproduction trim ring deep enough to reach the hub. The ones everyone sells (JAE Eagle from Taiwan) for 15x7 and 15x8 leave almost an inch gap. This is what I have on the car now. Although correct with the thin, square stepped lip, they don't look right.

PY and others also sell a ring that is 3" deep... but the lip is wide and round like 73 and up Rally IIs... and they still leave a 1/4" gap. I really need the original '68-'72 style.

I can get original 3.25" GM rings from OPGI, but they're $222 EACH!!! :eek:

Certainly many people have encountered this issue, what's the solution?

I figured I couldn't be the only one looking for these!

You would think with the prevalence of people putting larger wheels on all kinds of A and F bodies, this wouldn't be an issue! WTF is wrong with these repro companies? It's not like a deeper ring would require significant retooling!

I'm about ready to haul off and shell out the ~$900 for a set of originals and be done with it...

They will send you the same round lip set that everyone else has.

Where can you find those? Maybe we could get a discount on a group buy?

These have the inner groove on the edge of the square lip and are 3.25" deep. It still doesn't look to have a stepped lip, although they describe it as such.

Those ones below from ineedahupcap.com are advertised as 3" deep and shown with the stepped edge, but that's not what they sent me. This is the third set I bought (from various vendors) and didn't get what's in the picture! I'm refusing to pay return shipping this time, and waiting for their reply. :mad:

Update - I found what I believe to be original USA-made 15x8" Corvette rings at Heartbeat City for $134.88 each. I asked if these are the GM #3923626 but he didn't know the GM number. I had him measure them, they are 3" deep from the lip straight down, and 3.25" along the angled surface. The aftermarket 3" ring I tried left a .25" gap, so these should be just right.

Even better, they had a holiday sale which gave me 15% off, so they were just under $500 shipped to my door.

They don't have the stepped edge, but they have a groove around the lip, right at the edge. I think this is going to be the most correct ring for the pre-'73 15" Rally II:

It's a lot of money for trim rings, but much better than other places charging twice that... and the same rings on eBay (in NOS GM boxes) are as high as $1200.

I'll post again when they arrive and I try them out.

My 72 GP has 7's on front and 8's on back. I use no trim rings because of the poor fit all of them have.

Here they are, and I like them.

They're the original mounting style with 4 clips that mount to the outside of the rim. The clips are visible, as seen in the pics, but hey.. that's the way they were, I guess. The stainless is a lot nicer than the Taiwan repros, and they go all the way to the hub without touching it. There's about an 1/8" gap, not enough to get your finger in. It has a nice rolled edge and won't slice you up when washing the wheel (like my last set).

Even better, they have a kit price of $365, which I noticed and asked for, and they credited me back almost $100. The 15% holiday discount isn't available on the kit, but it still works out better.

I'd still prefer the originals with the squared off stepped lip, but given the choices available I can live with these.

It's really a deal, these are the same #3923626 rings being sold elsewhere for twice that and more. (No, I'm not a salesman for them, just a guy who likes to find good deals.)
