I know its not a car Question but My wife took a CWP class and im taking mine on the 15th My question is she loves the Sig Sauer P239 .40 She looked at sig 9mm but she really didnt like it nor I ,, I like the Hit power of the .40. Tell me what you think.

If she likes it and is accurate with it, go with the .40. A comparable sized 9mm will hold more rounds, less felt recoil, and is cheaper to shoot. If the goal is personal defense, and you two are equally efficient with both calibers, the .40 will be more effective.

I am not a fan of 9mm. The 40 is an extremely popular caliber and has good ballistics. My wife and I carry 45's. She bought a XD45 Compact since it has a grip safety. I carry Glocks.

As stated above if she likes it and she shoots is well then that would be the pistol to go with.

How much $ are they going for now days? I went and looked at a few smaller guns today, I did not know that i can get a background ck in 20min, kind of shocked me, buy a gun kill in 20 min wow.

Is that why you're looking at guns?

I like the HK .40s. Otherwise, you can shoot a good .22 all day long for cheap.

Let me take a slightly different stab at this.

Most recommendations are good for trained shooters the problem is 99% of people aren't (even those that think they are)

Most "bad guys" will run away when confronted with a gun, the few that won't will run if the gun is shot at them. Most of the people carrying a pistol will be too nervous, scared, shocked, etc to hit the broad side of a barn if the need arose.

So, while a 9mm isn't the optimal choise for a defensive weapon, it generally carries the most rounds. When someone is in fear of their life, shooting in a spray n pray, making noise manner, more bullets are better than the size of the hole. (that said I wouldn't go smaller than a 38/9mm)

Personally, I carry a 1911 and have shot competitively enough that I'm confident I can make my 8 rounds count. My wife, she needs as many bullets as she can get.

Just teach your loved ones to put two in the chest, if they keep coming start shooting at the head. Find a pistol that is comfortable to carry, hold and shoot. If the pistol doesn't meet all of the above, chances are it won't be there when needed.

Can't go wrong with the any Sig except maybe the the Mosquito. Secret Service use Sig's.

No just looking around in a pawn shop, I own 8 guns.

Excellent. When you find a good round that your guns like buy it in bulk from an online store and practice practice practice.

I am pretty partial to my Ruger SR40C... 15+1 .40 caliber in a nice concealable package...

One thing to keep in mind....If it's cumbersome or a pain to carry, most likely, you'll quit carrying it at all. Make sure it is a gun you can comfortably and easily conceal. Even if it's a small caliber, small frame pistol. It's always better to have SOME gun than NO gun.

Agree. Laser Grips etc that "put the dot" on the subject can save valuable ammo and make a point without a word or a shot fired.

Sandy and I went throught the NRA Basic Pistol course required to get a CT CCW permit.
She pretty good for someone that hadn't fired a pistol in 30yrs! She has fired my 1911 and CZ-83. Doesn't like either because they're too heavy. She REALLY wants a pink pistol, so for Christmas she's getting a Charter Arms "Pink Lady". It's light enough and is chambered for the .38S+P round.

I think she found what she likes and should stick with it. Sig's are fine weapons; and the 239 is an excellent choice. I agree with David, you'll/she'll be mediocre at BEST if confronted with a hostile situation; knowing your gun, practicing maneuvers of all the things that can happen, and plenty of range time will go far when in a crisis.

Caliber selection is very personal and that debate will never end.

Lastly, keep in mind a person with a knife is just as dangerous if not more than a gun. Every swipe of a knife will cause injury and very difficult to defend against...keep moving and use the gun.

Serious Question: When you travel across state lines what do you do regarding your CT CCW? Assumption is each state has own CCW requirements and you could be in accident or incident while carrying in another state other than CT.

Ex: IIRC MA passed mandatory prison law if carrying across state line wo MA license.

I'm biased because I'm a revolver guy, just love the wheel guns... :D Most of the Sig's I've shot jam up, are picky about ammo, and just dont go "bang" every time the trigger is pulled. I'm sure many of ya'all will disagree but for a carry gun, I'd never go with anything but a revolver. As far as caliber goes, a .40/9mm/.380/.38/.357 would all be fine.

"Wheel" guns are a favorite of mine, but finding an AFFORDABLE one in .45ACP or .45 Colt ISN'T easy. I REALLY want a Ruger Redhawk in .45 Colt, but it's nearly DOUBLE the weight of my GI Expert. Recently, I looked at an S & W revolver in .45ACP, titanium frame and stainless cylinder and barrel. $1,500! Even the repos of the Model 27 are going for nearly $1,000.
