sinus balloon surgery....anybody had it?
 

Sick of sinus infections and the CONSTANT plugged up nose. My doc has suggested this surgery along with allergy control. Any of you guys ever had it? What's the down side?

Friend has had and it worked well, I need it but do not want the recovery with the other issues. I now live on Nasonex, which does work, but its a ritual.
the doctor who does your frontal MRI or scan, will always tell you you have a deviated septum, its like in their sales pitch, in fact we hall have a slightly deviated septum, most do not afffect breathing though. They like to chrage extra for "shaving some off or reshaping ( a damn porting job) after the ballons are in ....

Subscribing - I'm sick of it too.

I know of a couple of people who have had something like that done and long term, it didn't make that big of a difference. Reminds me of stories about cataract surgery. Works great for some but after 5 years or so, they have to have it done again.
I just remember the details about the HUGE wadding they stick up in your nasal cavity after the procedure and the joy of having that wadding removed. :fear:

the wadding is for the bleeding from the 'PORTING" job, not the balloons

Thanks for the imput. Just got home from IN and KY with my umpthenth sinus infection. The doc put me on a new allergy med (generic Flonase) that has helped, but there is something in my mother-in-law's house that I'm allergic to. Maybe it's her?:D I'll be calling the sinus doc down here later this week. BTW...I have a severely deviated septum. My nose has been broken 5 times.

I had the Roto-Rooter job done in 2005. Have not had a sinus infection since. Before then I was diagnosed with chronic sinusitis and stayed in the Drs. office. I had some bleeding but used a sinus rinse that the doctor recommended and was over it in a very short time.
I still use the rinse after doing yard work or anything else that stirs up a lot of dust and it rinses all the junk out. I am from the deep south and allergy problems persist year round here.

Nasonex is the only thing keeping me outta surgery

Was in a hurry one day working on my truck in garage,tripped over the handle of floor jack and it caught me so far off guard that I landed face first on the floor,not even having time to put my hands out.
I was so embarrassed I pulled on my nose and heard crunching,put it back what I thought was straight and got a couple of sheets off the blue shop towels,rolled them up and shoved as far up my nose as I could. It hurt like he!! but I figured its what the doc would have done anyway.
I havent had any sinus problems since and can actually breathe better too.
Note do not try this at home,I was a lucky one.

Is this related to ear congestion or just nasal? or all in the same ?
4 years ago my ear/noise/throat doctor gave me Prednisone and never had a problem intill now .it's back my ears are congested ,I'm wondering if this would help

turbinectomy is the new thing in nasal sinus surgery. Like a deviated septum effort but more toward Ram Air sculpting for flow without going turbulent.

actually the Doc does minor deviated septum carving, and moreso lifts the floor flapand removes the" turbines". concepts is the turbines swelland cause blockage in sinus behind the nasal path. Simplified recovery, andl it can work for some folks,but not really all folks.

i recommend 2 weeks of (unpasturized local) honey; early morning, and just before bed.
works for most folks, natually.

Quit your complaining until you try the honey effort for 2weeks.

I tried snorting the honey like you suggested and it gave me a real good buzz but was kinda messy. ;^)

LOL! Took me about 10 minutes to stop chuckling after reading your post. Not at your misfortune, but your description and resulting cure. I say you should consider comedy or possibly becoming a rhinoplasty expert or maybe both. You had me in stitches! Glad you're ok and thanks for the laugh!

Honey DOES NOT work on mold allergy(which I have). It DOES work on pollen allergies.
Headed to the allergist tomorrow. My "sinus infection" ended up being viral pneumonia,from which I'm STILL recovering. The doc here in FL is confident that many of my sinus problems ARE allergy related.

Don't I know it!

Phase 1 complete. Had my allergy test today. 100 pricks(sounds familiar) then WAITING
two hrs for the results. I'm moderately allergic to phoma beta, pullularia and aspergillus
mold, d.farnae and d.pterynussus dust mites, mildly allergic to our dogs(aren't Shi-Tzus
supposed to be hypoallergenic?),bayberry,cedar,cypress,oak, eucalyptus(do those grow here?) and elm pollen and very mildly allergic to timothy grass pollen. The doc prescribed Zyrtec(she said it makes you drowsy....YEP!) and generic Flonase. We have to wrap our matress and box springs in dust proof covers, install HEPA air filters in the heat pump, buy a HEPA air cleaner and reduce the humidity in the town house to 40-50%. After all this, it had better WORK!
