Old Fender or new fender for 1968 Firebird?
 

I know that this must be somewhere in the achieves, but four different searches didn't produce an answer for 1st gen Firebirds.

The original driver's fender has been crumpled up at the bottom rear when the tire came off and rolled under the fender and out the side. It has no rust, two coats of paint, and pretty tight creases. It is now off the car, but haven't got a repair estimate. I don't do bodywork or paint, and have no desire to learn. I'll take a fender off and put it back on, but that's it. So is it best to have the old repaired, or just start over with an aftermarket replacement? Which company has the best replacement fenders?

but be prepared to spend as much as a replacement one costs.

Agreed. New fenders never fit well and you can easily spend as much or very likely more having a repop fitted. If that one isnt too rusted, id use it for sure. Original sheet metal is always a good thing to have on your car, replace as little as possible.

No rust at all. Spent its life as a California desert car. I'll run it around to a couple body shops after the first of the year and see what they say.

Seems to me to be that fender is very fixable.
