Don't know what it's called

Under the dash behind the steering column bezel and below the steering column is a short metal piece that ties into the dash on both sides of the steering column. What is it called and does anyone have one?

I don't think so. If you have an air conditioned car, the drivers side lap vent fits over it...... It may have just been cut out....

Can anyone tell me by the pic above if this has been cut out?

Are you talking about the sort of collar clamp at the base of the steering
column?

No. I am trying to figure out if the gap where the clamp shows in the picture above has been cut out or not. On the bottom of the dash itself, laying on your back and looking up, there is a gap under the steering column and behind the steering wheel column cover that is void. If you install lap vents for an AC car, there is no support in this area to keep the vent from falling in on the column end of the vent. It's kinda weird to describe, but if someone has a picture of the underside of the stock dash just below the stock steering column it sure would help. Thanks guys...

Danny, not sure if you resolved this, but looking through my pic archive, I found this pic from when I changed to parchment. Looks like it is open by design. This is on a NON AC car.

Alot more interior pics that may or may not help are here:
