Jack Color
 

Had my jack assembly, base and lug wrench sandblasted and powder coated. Looking for proper color and type of paint to use for orginal look? Car is a 71 GTO.

Depends on which jack you have, the keystone style, the "Y" style, or the square style.

Square. I didn't realize that there was 3 different styles for the 71 A body. Any help is appreciated.

So the mast the square style? That should mean your car is a Fremont built car (Z plant code)?

If so, the mast was silver cad plated and the mechanism and base were a dark blue. Here is a good thread on the jacks in the firebird section. From what I have seen A-bodies used the same jacks.

Thanks 68bird. Mine is a Freemont built car. I'm sure I can find the blue to match. What can I do about giving the mast and lug wrench the original look?

Ford blue is a good match. You can see at the end of the thread above which one was used. Depending on how perfect you are try to get, you can get the mast plated. You have to get the mechanism off to do that.

If you look around the bottom of the mast, there shoud be a date code stamped into it, a letter and a number. Can you let me know what you find and what the build date of your car is?

Would also be interested in hearing the date built of your original jack & the date build of your '71 GTO.

The letter code on the mast looks like a c but could be a o. The number looks to be a 1. Build date is 06B. Second week of June 1971. Can't say for sure but I have to believe it is the orginal Jack. I bought the car in Feb of 2000. I spoke with the second owner who bought the car when it was a year old and kept it untill finances force him to sell it to the dealer I purchased it from. The car was largely untouched except for some accident damage repair.

Seems like the date span is reasonable. I also have one of these jacks dated C1 that came out of a Fremont 71 lemans.
