'72 GTO 455 4 speed hardtop
A friend of mine might sell his '72 GTO. It has its original 455 HO and and 4 speed, and has power steering and brakes. It's not rusty at all, but it does need to be painted. 100k miles, original carb, heads, and RA equipment, What do you think this car is worth? I want to make him a fair offer. Thank you.

Would need to see pics to baseline/ballpark an estimate...

I'd say between 8k to 12k depending on condition and how much work is needed to get it done right. The 455/4 speed may keep it in the 10-12k range, providing its the numbers matching drivetrain. Good luck and post pics!

Anywhere from 16k-25k depending on options/condition/originality IMO.

$8-12k? I would buy EVERY single #'s matching complete 455 H.O. 4 speed car that I could buy for that! Even in today's economy. |

Depends...needs paint, how's the interior? Is it present? Does it run? Engine trans need rebuilt? These cars are rare I agree but not that rare (like ra4 judge rare) to spend more than 12k on a project car. If it needs a full restoration, I wouldn't give more than 8k. These cars fully restored are only mid 30s especially today's economy

I got $10,000 for this one without a motor, or seats for that matter.

There was one on Ebay numerous times last year without a motor in better shape than that that cannot get its $5,800 opening bid. |

About a year & a half ago. Went with the original rear, an M22, 7F6 heads, the Ram Air setup and a decent set of honeys.
This is what it looks like now. |
72's are finally getting some well deserved respect & the prices they now get reflect that.
PB's estimate sounds right. |

I agree with Pat as well......Here is my 72 matching number GTO that was just a 400 with Manual 3 speed car and i sold it for 10,500 about 2 years ago. Everything is worth as much as someone is willing to pay.....Color combos mean more to some than others as well....If everything was cheap nobody would ever sell them and ones that did would be bought up quickly.

That nice clean #'s low option 72 4spd 455HO pale yellow brought like 25K didn't it ?
I'd work backwards from that. Add for better color. Add for WW5 I'd try to get it for 6-8k ... just in case it needs new tires or a clutch. :heh: |
