72 engine color

Does anyone have a PPG or Ditzler code for the correct block color for a 72 GTO?
I thought the 71 and earlier color was more of a robin's egg and the 72 and later was more silver/blue.

I don't know what the nunaric code is but the 72 engine color for the 72 is the same on it as the 73 engine which is the light powder blue. My friend calls it sick blue. But i love it. It doesn't have the metiliac in it so it stays on where you put it & stays blue. It doesn't bur n off the exhaust ports as the other paints do. With my 73 it only needs a very little touch up each year.

I think the 72 and later engine paints were discontinued by most suppliers a few years ago. I used to use the POR 24 engine kits, they always seem to hold up the best. But that color hasn't been available for a while.

Thanks Pat. Great site, I never knew they did so many changes in the 70's.

The spray can paint in the 72-73 color is made by plastickote paints & runs about $5.00 a can . I keep about 5 cans on hand at all times. It's not the only color I use of coruse but I keep at least 5 at a time so I don't have to drive 45 min's to get more if & when I run out.

I got a couple of spray cans from Butler that matched well from my original. I wish that I would have bought a quart so that I could have catalyzed it. My paint comes off with brake cleaner.
