62210 oem engine paint
 

Any have or know where to get a can of the 72 engine paint "OEM 62210"?

Well, OEM still sells it. It is $170.00 for the 3 can Minimum delivered to your house. That's ridiculous!

yes, that's the same generous offer he was making when I needed some a few years ago. I ended up finding a couple of the last cans NPD had in stock.

I ordered paint from Tieman as well. I think a quart was ~$110 delivered. Your best option might be to order a quart and have it put into aerosol cans locally. I also had a quart mixed locally using the paint formula for 71-73 from the Pontiacpower website and the match was not good. Here's a sample comparing the Pontiacpower to the Tieman formula.

If you just want to buy cans, you might try the OER paint from Classic Industries. When I redid some honeycomb rims, I would not pay the OEM prices and bought the honeycomb paint from OER. It was a high quality product. They have a listing for 71-73 Pontiac Blue at $16.99, but I cannot vouch for the color match.

I bought the 3 cans so hopefully I'll run into another 71-72 something Pontiac to use it on.

After all, spending that much on engine paint almost justifies the purchase of another car. I wouldn't want to waste all that paint.

Interesting logic! LOL I don't think my wife would buy it though.

if it makes you feel better, I paid $60 each for the 2 cans I got of the OEM 60210 and it's as close of a color match in my opinion to the original color from my valve covers as any I've seen.

Engine color
 

Attached are pictures of the engine color from my 71 TA. The engine is original and was painted black before I got the car. This is the only trace of original paint color which is not even close to bentwheelbob's picture. The color in the pictures is kind of greenish blue.I've been trying to get the proper info fore some time and can't buy any paint close to this. Paint color has been discussed on this form many times but no conclusions. I can have my color duplicated but I would like to know its correct before I do. Any help would greatly appreciated.

i took and sprayed out a sample of the OEM 62210 then went to my local paint store and had them mix up a quart of PPG single stage to match the 62210. they pretty much nailed the color that was in the spray can so that's what i used when i redid my 72 back in 2006. but just in case i didn't like the PPG, i stocked up on a few extra cans of the 62210......

The great thing about America is that it is a free country. Personally, I'll trust that Scott Tieman has it nailed given his reputation doing high-end Pontiac restorations. Maybe Superduty Bob will sell you one of his extra cans.

here is the 62210 on my intake, this pictures makes it look a bit greener than it is, some other pictures I've taken make it look powder blue, which it's not.

That looks great. A batch of stuff I sent to the painter (including my intake, oil pan and valve covers) is going to be delivered on Saturday. He painted it with the Tieman mix and I will post pictures once I get it. I am planning to reshoot everything once it is assembled, but I wanted a good baked on finish as a starting point.

Rick -a few questions:

1) are you going to repaint everything post assembly?
2) did you first paint your exhaust crossover with high temp exhaust manifold coating?
3) where did you get your choke housing cover?

I also own a 72 T/A. When I painted that engine, I used OEM 62210, which is why I was looking to get the same paint. When I painted that engine, I compared the 62210 to the original valve cover and it was amazingly close (color was spot on but had a little more gloss than the old paint). I would expect that for old worn paint.

In my opinion, It is crazy to spend that kind of money on the correct paint, but if you want the correct paint, you have to spend the money.

Your oil filter housing does look like the original paint and if you bought 62210 I dont think you would be disappointed.

1) are you going to repaint everything post assembly? No, I just painted the manifold separately. I got too picky about the crossover as I didn't want to do the overspray on part of it and have part of it rust which I believe is the correct way.
2) did you first paint your exhaust crossover with high temp exhaust manifold coating? the crossover I fully painted it with the 62210 which is incorrect, and on the shield I used 1200 degree engine silver.
3) where did you get your choke housing cover? It's the factory choke cover, I just cleaned it up with some metal polish and steel wool.

I first had the correct '71-72 engine paint made up in spray cans in '91. Had another run made in '93 & even sold a can that year to Steve Ames @ GTO Nats. Still have a few cans from another run in the early 00's. For anyone dead set on using enamel, use the mixing formula & have it made locally. If anyone has the paint mixed as a urethane, please PM me.

Painted parts have arrived
 

Well my paint guy showed up with a batch of parts today and I am totally blown away. He painted them in a booth using the Scott Tieman paint color, cleared them and then baked them. To say they look too good is almost an understatement. I was planning to just do a driveway paint job after finishing everything, but not now.

My goal was to get a good coat of paint on the hard to paint parts like the intake, valley pan and crossover prior to assembly. While I was at it, the valve covers and oil pan needed some dents and dings fixed, so I sent them too. It looks like now I will be hauling the entire engine to his shop for final color.

In the pictures below, the old oil pan is included in several shots. In addition, I have also included the harmonic balancer which I painted on the back side with Ames 71-73 Pontiac blue. A pretty good match actually.
