Hi guys, i have a spare 455 that i would like to build with 9.0-9.5 to 1 comp. id also like to use the 60243 cam with 6x heads. do any of you run this combo @ 4000 lbs.? im hoping it would produce 425-440 hp. with a little port work. lol. thanks BLUE TA ps. i was hoping to get in the high 12.90s 3.08 gear.

Take a look at my combo (see below) - just about what you mentioned. I run 5C's at 9.3 CR.
Dont have HP numbers but should by end of March when it goes onto dyno.
I'd expect your proposed HP numbers to be correct.

I ran this cam in my first built 455. Great street cam, very friendly idle and manners. My T/A was close to 4K pounds. Should make at least 400 h/p..

I also ran 6X heads that were done by Dave at SD Performance.

It's a very nice street cam for a 455.

I don't think 12.9 is possible with 3.08 gear, but probably close to it.. I never tested my car as it doesn't see track time..

The 2802 is very close to being the same cam for half the $$.

How your heads are prepared will have much to do with meeting your goals. If you get good low lift numbers and not just a hog out you will make the low end torque to pull that heavy car with a 3.08. If you hog the ports out too much you will lose port velocity you need to build torque. Concentrate on good bowl work and correct port shape and properly working the short turn radius.

Last time I looked, the cam/lifter set was $110.00, I forget who makes them, have nor heard any negatives, though, at all...

Hi Guys, thanks for the replys. id thought about the 2802 also, it is very close to the 60243 and its on sale now. 89.95 i got a line on some 6x-8 heads today but the guy didnt answer. did all 6x heads come with screw in studs? id like to stay in the 9.0-9.5 range, the gas is not real good in cal. maybe the 114 ls would help that with the 2802 anyway thanks again for the info. i love this site! Yes,all 6X heads have screw in studs and 2.11 intake and 1.66 valves.

I just got my '64 GTO Convertible's 455 with a 60243 done last month. Because I'm up in the north country, I haven't been able to drive it much. But there were some nice days and I'm VERY impressed with my overall package.

Have a set of 96 heads, 9.5 compression, factory cast iron intake, 800 cfm quad, RAIII 2.5" headers into the down pipes and x pipe setup.

I think that 12.90's would easily be within reach with that combo.

Right before Norwalk last year we put together a 455 and topped it with unported small valve #46 heads and a used Crower cam from under the work bench. It ran 11.90's at 112mph in the heat at Norwalk in a 1981 Firebird with a TH350 and used converter off of Craigslist......Cliff

Which Crower cam did you use on this combo? Was it the 60243 as well?

It was a larger one that we tried here a few years ago in another 455. Can't remember the part number, but it was around 247/254 ground on a 108LSA. It the first 455 we tested it in, sounded like a "Pro Stock" engine, but never produced any decent dyno or track numbers.

Stuffed into the 455 with the small valve #46 heads and being used in a heavier car with less converter, it's running nearly a half second quicker and more MPH, go figure?......Cliff

I am using the 2802 cam on a similar engine and i think it is a little bit to tame, and would use a little bit bigger cam if i did build the engine today.

3.08 Gear will probably be fine. Spend the money for a good converter and it will run mid-low 12's.
