working on 63 lemans . need to know a few things. who makes a good radiator for it ? also need to know where to get a gas tank for the stock location ? any help ?

US radiator has several choices that will fit. With them you have a choice of 1,2,3,or 4 row radiators. Also check the Ames catalog, they have a dedicated Tempest catalog.

I used a Griffin aluminum radiator for my 400 ci conversion. The size is 19" x 26" and fit with minimal bracket/radiator mods. The cost was around $150. I even modified a stock 326 fan shroud to fit.

I did a similar thing as C5Farmer only I think I used a "Northern Radiator" ... about the same price ... Made in the states. Make sure that you get one with a drain petcock at the bottom! John

Gas tank, good luck. I was able to use a 64 GTO gas tank in my wifes 4 spd with some mods on the straps. it was okay and got her down the road but not great. Got another okay one for a 63 and having it lined and changing it back. Someome here on this forum tried it with an automatic and it didnt fit too well because of the torque converter

Looks like I have a almost new tank for a 64... GTO for sale

Gas tank

Your best bet is to find a good tank from a 63 and use it. I have heard that an early chevy II tank will fit (it is a little narrower), but requires changing the filler tube to the tempest position. Or find some place like this and get your tank redone:

Gas Tank

Just realized you need a gas tank also. I have one up in my rafters that I'm getting tired of looking at, since the mechanical part of my 63 is almost done. Has the filler tube and even a gas cap. PM me if interested? John

I'm not sure whether it will work with the factory transaxle setup, but I just bought a tank for a '71-'72 Ventura (part number GM46C, also listed at Summit Racing as RSD-AFT7104) to use under my tempest with a Ford 9'' rear axle conversion. It only cost $140 delivered. It looks like it is going to fit under the trunk floor and between the frame rails very well.

To mount, it uses two straps running fore-aft. I happened to have a pair of extra trunk floor supports/strap mounts that look like they are going to fit perfectly to mount the straps to. The tank also does have a long welded-on filler neck that I am going to have to shorten to mate up with the Tempest's fill tube.

Not a simple bolt-in, but perhaps a good option for someone looking for something sort of stock looking that will fit under there.

Tempest guys radiator

contact roger rosebush at the tempest guys. He is making a direct fit radiator that cools over 500 hp. Rogers old company was BeCool radiators. He knows how to make them.

Also,, make sure the divider plate for the water pump is clearanced correctly, that the fuel mix isn't too lean & timing is correct. All will cause over heat issues.

I clearance the water pump.then i called us rad. They told me my rad was to small. That is why I am looking for a rad.
