What do ya think about this?

So here is what I'm thinking of doing with my 72. Turn the inner headlights into parking/turn signals lamps and where the turn signals are currently in the front lower valance make them foglamps. What do ya think? Something a little different.
Currently running HID's on the outside headlights and halogens on the inner. This is a photoshop. I already made the modifications to the inner headlights, now need to find a set of fog lamps lights that will fit where the existing parking/turn signals lights are. The existing turn signal housings are about 4" in Dia. |
Not bad.

A little different.
Got any more pictures of your convertible? Wilderness green? |

There's a gold '72 vert around town with an old lady driving it...bone stock..looks like it breathes through the hood. It's been on my list to harass her to sell it to me but she's always going in my opposite direction!
Back to topic...should be a pretty cool mod to that car. |
Make sure it's ok with DMV for your state. Some frown on not having the headlights as they were from the factory. Just my :2cents:.
|
Back in the '70s, it wasn't uncommon to see those yellow headlights substituted into the high beam space...Especially, Mopars for some reason....I wonder if they still sell those? In fact, I've noticed that some of the new generation Dodge Challengers come with them, I assume for that old school look.

So what would you use for front turn signals?
|
With modern bulbs you could drill holes in any housing and install bulbs...thinking of Emergency Lighting as on construction area Unmarked Police vehicles such as strobes et al.

My 2013 Challenger R/T. The "inner" headlights are the parking lamp/turn signals. |

The nice thing is I can go back to stock very easily. So it's not a like I'm hacking up the wiring harness. The existing turn signals have three wires, two for parking and the third wire triggers the bigger filament in the bulb to flash on and off. I would just tap off of those. The foglamps would be wired up separetely with a switch under the dash. |

Done!
Here are some preliminary pics. I decided not to replace the original parking/turn signal housing with any aftermarket foglamps basically because I could not find any that would fit correctly. So I just used my original housing and replaced the amber 1157's with clear bulbs and wired them so that both filiments are turned on when the switch is flipped. These are now my running lights. The inner headlights are not tinted yellow, but instead I was able to fit an 1157 socket in place of the H4 socket and used Amber bulbs there. I will take better pictures once I get the car out of the garage. I think it looks pretty good and different. |
