Looking for opinions on a street build.....
64 Le Mans, 3.08 rear gear(possible 3.42), 5 speed, 455, good rods, mildly ported 722 RA IV heads, Diamond pistons for 9.5cr. Not looking for a screamer, but a 'snappy' quick from street light to street light that can get out on the highway. power from 1,500(?) to maybe 6,000rpm
Looking for a 'drive all day' hydraulic roller cam...moderate lift, moderate duration Is there a dual quad that won't choke this motor? Will a Performer RPM choke this set up? Is having a heat crossover a big deal? Thanks guys in advance, opinions are greatly appreciated |
SD performance's old faithful should do well. 236/242 @ 112lsa (I think). Looking at your objectives...I wouldn't go smaller than 230/236 or larger than 242/246. I think one of those three would do well.

With those gears and a mildly ported set of 722 heads the Performer RPM would be a good choice. If you had more gear then I would say a Torker II. An Offy dual quad would also work if set up properly and give your 64 a period look.

One other question...
Will roller rockers fit under stock style rocker covers?
I am currently gathering parts for a 64 Le Mans/Tempest |

Should...two things to check: The poly loc will sometimes hit - several venders make a thick valve cover gasket that should clear: http://www.tinindianperformance.com/...%20gaskets.htm They are $$ - but can be reused. I don't know if our sponsor has them (PY). Also - sometimes the corners of larger rollers have to be grinded to clear the valve cover bolt holes. |
My HS fit under a chrome stock style valve cover.
