68 Firebird Garage Find
1 Attachment(s)
A friend(www.dashman.net) was told about the car when the person was doing a job in the area. We went to looked at it but know one was home, just took the one picture. 68 Firebird, V8, as it has a hole cut in the hood that is the shape of a T/A shaker scoop turned backward, seen factory looking chrome rocker cover, Ralley II wheels with black center caps and black center lug nuts, the two wheel that you could see looked to be in decent shape yet. Front valance rusted of lower fender on driver side, rusty passenger quarter and rear of deck lid had rust bubbles acrossed it. Car has sand and dirt up to the door on driver side. Garage looks like it could fall over any time.

Sad.

Is it a 400 car or 350? Looks like the hood is white. Can you see the grills or deck lid?
|
Garage had wooden swinging doors, didn't even think of opening them. Couldn't tell what engine size, could only see through the hole in the hood.Seen the deck lid, no engine displacement emblems. Is there a way to Identify engine by emblem placement? It looked like there was a fire in the garage at one time and there is a bunch of bottles and other stuff in the attic, so that may be why that part of the hood is white and the top of the fender is is rusty with no paint. Can't see the grills.

Very sad...she needs a new life!!

Looks like a 350 hood with a hole cut in it. yup sad, but at least they rolled the windows up!

I'm going to go back and see if there is someone there. The house has a newer metal roof and there is a outdoor wood stove that had smoke coming out of it when we where there but none was home.

Have a update on this car two years later. The guy that told me about it was in the area where the car is located and talked to the owner. This is what the owner said about it. It's a 68 400 4 speed and claims it has a 12 bolt rear end in it. Currently it has a 455 residing in it. He said that he ran 108 mph in the 1/4 with it years ago. He said he owned it since 68 and it had a tach on the hood with the twin scoops and it was the light blue color when new. The owner said he was going to fix it up. The guy also I was told me the front half of the roof of the garage this is in has collapsed. I'm going to see if I can go see it again and maybe get the VIN to run a PHS on it.

A tactic that has successfully worked for me several times, is show him pics of your car, explain car was not that bad when parked, but is now compared, honestly if it was going to get fixed he would off already done it, make sure he understands you will fix it, it's worked for me:usa2:
|
The guy I know who talked to the owner told him about my 69 GTO that I fixed up. The owner also realizes the car may come out of the garage in more then one piece. He did get his phone number and will give to me as long as it is ok to call him about it.
|
Well I got the Firebird owners name and phone number.
|
Looks like it was rotted into the ground?
|
Car is in a tiny one car garage that is on a hill. All the mud from the hill is running into the garage so it is up to the rockers. I'm thinking if the car is pulled out of the garage it may come out in a few pieces. This garage could fall down on it any time or it could get pushed down the hill it's on, which is pretty steep. I've been told the guy will let me look at it since I'm into Pontiacs and when I do, I'll try to get more pictures.

Offer him help in finding parts for it - when he finds out what it will cost to restore it, he may change his mind.
