Arnie FTW!

Scott Roberts 05-19-2013 09:24 AM

At least he didn't back over the tree this time...

Tom Vaught 05-19-2013 09:47 AM

I can still hear Bill Bader yelling, LOL!

OUCH !!!!

Probird 05-19-2013 01:13 PM

Ouch! Pick up the pieces and and add a little duct tape. It'll be fine.

marks73ta 05-19-2013 02:24 PM

Shamless repeat. "It'll buff out!!!"
I met Arnie at a speed shop my son worked at right after college. His white Tempest had blown the motor and they were tearing it down to inspect and determine the fault. He signed one of the pistons out of that motor for me.

He was so great to talk to. You'd think he knew you all your life.

Didn't skip a beat, went right back to the line!

Half-Inch Stud 05-19-2013 08:48 PM

Goof showmanship i think. Besides that, half the croud saw a perfectly fine Tiger run.

Engine-Ear 05-19-2013 09:17 PM

Man, viva la Farmer!

T Syron 05-19-2013 09:30 PM

I will get hammered for this but... I agree with the bullet and think it might be time for him the hang it up. Don't get me wrong, Arnie is a super guy and very personable but ....

scott woodmancy 05-19-2013 11:04 PM

arnie beswick

i agree........retire before you hurt or kill somebody, its all fun and games until somebody gets hurt !!! Arnie may be a great guy and a great showman but now he is dangerous

Big Injun 05-20-2013 01:35 AM

Arnie is a legend! He does not have to go down the track to maintain his status in drag racing. I know of several folks who have tried to get Arnie out of the car. He loves the thrill too much. Unfortunately, I don't think it will ever happen.

But there are no more facts quoted on that other board than in this thread. In fact, a few outright lies told there.

Elarson 05-20-2013 06:39 AM

I have more experience with long, high-speed, high-energy burnouts than most folks. The slightest traction difference left-to-right will kick the car around. I personally have ended burnouts facing sideways and facing totally turned around backwards.

I would advise my PY friends not to get caught up in the chatter of the keyboard experts.

I still have the video of that somewhere at home...on analog tape...from when he did that at Norwalk, with Bill Bader Jr. laughing over the P.A. system "Arnie! You're killing me!"

Arnie is still the man! Hall of Famer,A true competitor, showman, and a down right nice guy!

He is and always will be THE ICON OF PONTIAC DRAG RACING! I have a tremendous respect for him.I still get all excited to watch him make a pass.I would hesitate to put the legend in my car and let him make a pass. Actually it would be a honor!

I bet some guys would love to see there hero's make just 1 more pass(ie Dick Harrell,Grumpy Jenkins..you get the pic)Eat it up guys our legend is still kickin, and still doing what he loves and you have to admit its fun to watch!
