Holley Street Dominator & 78 T/A shaker
 

Wondering if the old Holley Street Dominator will work with my factory shaker & quadrajet on my 78 Trans Am. Saw an article before showing how various intakes moved the carb a little forward or up etc but it did not discuss the HSD. Running a built 455 so need a bit more flow than the stock unit. Also can you cut the whole exhaust cross over out of the AL manifold, not using it and like the cleaner look.

That was it seems the HSD would fit the best. Just wondering about street manners. 250cfm ported heads on 455 with SD perf OF cam 3k stall and 3.42 gear. Also found this nice looker but 400 ouch. http://www.npdlink.com/store/product...-146959-0.html

From what I have read, neither the HSD or Tomahawk are idea with spreadbore carbs. Maybe a spacer will help but then you may run into hood clearance issues. Performer RPM is probably going to be the default choice but with your combo of heads, cam, stall and gear, I would certainly give the HSD a try and doubt that you will be giving much up to the RPM and more importantly, it should fit under your hood without too much work.

I know Cliff and Jim Hand tested the HSD on their cars and lost some overall performance to the RPM. I am not sure if they were running Holley's or Q-jets though.

OK.I have an "older" Edeltork P4B.........dimensionally,is it the same as the Performer?

I have a 78 TA with a 455, HSD Intake and was running the original Quadrajet. I used the original air cleaner assembly, and throttle bracket, no issues, everything clearanced just fine. I have since switched to a Holley 750 Vac Secondary with a 1/4" spacer. Had to utilize one of Larry's WFO drop base air cleaners which worked perfectly and did not change the height or disturb the shaker at all.

quick answer, no. ports are bigger, harder to run an HEI distrib( some have little problems others have more). height is close i think, but have never really measured it.
