8.5 rear
 

picked up a used 8.5 from a running car. Worked well while it was in.
How much play is normal
The axles move easily up and down (not in/out) within the bearings. I don't think the bearings are loose. Seems like the axle shaft moves up in the bearing race. Maybe a 1/8 inch overall. No leaks at the axle ends.
Should I replace the bearings, the axle (hoping not to) or both? Or, leave well enough alone?
