Subframe Interchange
 

I have a 67 Firebird and was thinking of pulling the front end apart to detail the subframe and engine compartment. I was thinking of "maybe" getting another subframe and detailing that one and swapping it to cut down on the down time of the car. What subframes are interchangeable 67-69 Camaro and Firebird, are Nova subframes also the same? Thanks

They will all fit but none are the same. 67 has the bump stop on the frame, 68 is on the back control arm and 69 on the front.

They will all bolt up but don't be fooled there are differences between each year. I just went through the same issues trying to find the right frame and in good rust free condition. Decided on a reproduction 68.

How was the fit and finish of the repop subframe?

Same thickness material?

The repop frames are nice but pretty expensive. After seeing the price most people decide to restore their original or hunt down a cleaner one online.

Hey Guys. Just purchased a 69 FB and it looks like I might need a sub frame. I'm toying with the idea of buying a repop sub frame. Have any 69 FB'ers installed this sub frame on their car? What are the problems..?

Even on other forums I have not found any negative feedback with regards to fit. The only negative is the price.

I have found many OEM subframes for under 400 some bare, some complete.

I have a pretty descent 69 frame but you are about 6 hrs away. I purchased a 68 new aftermarket. The only issue I had was none of the holes that was suppose to be threaded was not. I had to tap several holes. The biggest issue with that was the sway bar mount to frame. The frame was not thick enough there to tap and it needed a rivet nut or a nut in the frame to support the bolts.

Nothing major but frustrating after spending that amount of money for it.

my sub frame was hit on the drivers side and it looks like it's not square. I can have it straightened, then blasted and powder coated, but then thought it might be better to get a repop. I'm probably looking at more money this way.

Do yourself a favor and redo yours, it fits-no fabricating needed-and you'll save on not buying another one. I did mine, not hard just make sure you get it lined up right when you put it back in.
