1976-77 A/C parts information
Since I have had to replace just about every component for my A/C system except the compressor in my '76 LeMans, here is some info that I learned:
The evaporators for the 1976-77 A bodies with Controlled Cycle A/C GM part number 3035171/ Delco 15-6249 were also used in the 1979-85 Cadillac Eldorado, Olds Toronado and Buick Riviera. They are readily available for under $60 to your door using UAC part number EV 6340PFC. I was able to purchase one on E-Bay for $129, then the seller jacked the price up over $200 just after I hit the buy it now. Good info, but I wonder how this applies to the Can Am, given they came with a Grand Prix dash? I had to replace a relay once that attaches near the evaporator box, and when I went to the dealer, he couldn't find it under LeMans or A-body, but found it under Grand Prix or G-body. I wonder if the evaporator is for a GP too?

The evaporator is the same for all A or G bodies.

Finally got it all together, charged with R-12. Compressor came right on, cooled the vents down to 41 degrees during this 80 degree day at idle car stationary. Next is the Grand Am. Still has a charge, but the compressor hub bearing is noisy.

Good info, and I am also happy to hear of your success, I just reserected the A/C on our 78 Impalla Wagon, and converted it to R-134, it sure makes hauling the 2 Greyhounds more pleasant on these 80+ days.

Sorry to bring up old thread like this, but i have problem finding pressure switch to my -76 Grand prix.
It seems on these it is installed to the high side hardline right after/before orifice tube, and i quess the low side accumulator switch will not work there? There is no part number on any dealer or old books for it. Need help asap. Here is image of -77 Trans ams bay, its similar to mine. Clutch/pressure switch is on hardline.
