Lowering Coil Springs for 1965 Pontiac
 

My '65 Catalina needs a suspension refresh. OPGI has 3" low profile coil springs for the front, but doesn't list 3" coils for the rear on a 1965.

Looking at my GM Interchange Manual, it shows that 1961-1965 Pontiacs all used the same part interchange number for the rear coil springs.

Does this mean that I can use 3" rear low profile springs listed for a 61-64 Catalina on my 1965 Catalina?

Can't answer your question but if you need springs, lowered, stock or whatever, these are the guys to use.

If you put 3 inch lower on the front then you will want 2 inch lower on the back. the front & rear springs require a different spring length so if you put a 3 inch lower on all 4 you would be 1 inch lower in the rear & 3 inchs is going to make you drag the ground now. Literly. Drag the ground. That is going to be to low for that car.

rexs73gto, I don't know if you can see my sig pic, but I'm already at 3 and 3 and driving just fine--slammed to the ground yes, but totally driveable. It has 3" low profiles in the front, and cut and heated coils in the back that in all honesty is more than 3" drop at this point in time. Both were put in a long time ago.

To get some ride quality back, I actually wanted to put low profile coils in the rear and new shocks all around, hence the reason why I was asking if 3" drop coils from a 61-64 Catalina would work on my 65.

As far as the coils I think from looking at all the books i have the frame & the rest of the suspension is different then the 61-64 style frames so looking at it from the books they coils from th 61-64 won't work. Are you having a problem finding the correct coils for your car???. If that is the case you can , if you have call your local frame front end shop & most of those shops have access to special made coils , which aren't much more then buying them right off the shelf. Were lucky where I live we have a shop that sells special made coils & leaf springs. They've been in business for 40+ years & can make anything you would need right in there shop. The shop is in South Bend IN.

Hey buddy quick question. Did you had to change the shocks to be able to install these 3” shorten coils?
I joust got a quote from that company somebody referenced earlier in the conversation. 3” shorten 30to35% stiffer. Just under 700$ for all four
