Water pump gasket(s)

I seem to have a continuing issue getting my water pump to seal to the front cover on my 68. It has the original 8 bolt pump. I cannot get it to stop leaking unless I double gasket the pump. I have looked at other 8 bolt pumps at car shows and have seen a couple with double gaskets. When asking why I get the same answer. Leaks without two gaskets. Not a huge leak but enough to leave some drips. Cover does not have a huge pits and looks relativly flat when checking with a straight edge. I'm using permatex on the side that fits to the cover. Water pump is a flow kooler and new stainless steel plates. Is there something I'm missing?

are you missing the metal divider plate? There SHOULD be two gaskets, it's a sandwich with: timing cover - gasket 1 - divider plate - gasket 2 - then the water pump.
