Does anyone know how hot a points distributor can get on the inside on a 100 degree+ day?

Very f'n hot.

Bottom part is likely whatever the oil temperature is: 200+ F.

Upper part is AT LEAST the same temp as the under-hood air, but probably hotter.

The reason I asked is that some on the AACA forum are saying white lithium grease is ok to use on the points rubbing block and on the mechanical advance weights. I always use specific distributor cam grease which is made for high temp and is non flowing at those temps. What those temps are I just don't know.

I use to only use the cam grease, or high temp disc brake wheel bearing grease when ran I points.
If you can get a hold of a thermal gun you can get your answer real fast in regards to temp.

Also note that on these old distributors that the wire can look totally good at the points and be near free of insulation under the breaker plate and on the verge of getting you stuck somewhere, so check it!!
