More nuggets of Car Czar observed actions:

• "Dual car czars surrounded my car and picked out every little imperfection. They didn't know it was my car, and I said nothing; I just listened to their conversation. They were obviously entertaining each other."

• "Pretty soon I could smell 'em. At every show..."

• "Never ask this person about what he thinks of your car - he'll have nothing good to say, and the police might just need to be called."

How true.

The ones who tell you what they would do to your car if it were theirs are just as bad.

This is why I stay away from car shows and favor attending only cruise-ins.

I had a moment like he described a few weeks ago when I interrupted a guy announcing loudly to his friends and family that my car was clearly a cloned because a "GTO always has 7 emblems on the car" :confused:

FYI, one goes on the air cleaner.

I have to admit, out of curiosity I did count the number of emblems on my car after he left.

Lemme Guess - The Buick Air Cleaner Decal would be #7 because he read in a magazine or on the interweb? :D

My Dad has an LQ4 6.0 in his Camaro, and we installed a LS1 intake and accessories, including Corvette coil covers. People always say to change them because "your car isnt a Corvette".

I always reply with something like "Im sorry, I forgot this was your car":D

Car Czar- I didn't know these people had a name. I just call them ***holes, lol. I see them at every car show too. Its not the spouting of randoms facts that bothers me. Its the complete ignorance of the car owner's feelings when they stand there and point out everything thats "wrong" with a car. They may think they look so smart, but they just come across as insensitive jerks. And so far every czar I've come across doesn't actually have a car at the show.

Funny that while this guy wrote an article deriding these "car czars," he outed himself as one at the end of the story. (I had to save the picture on my computer, then zoom in to read it.)

Plus - what kind of a savage takes a turquoise '65 and paints it red?

I don't enter shows, as I don't own any show cars. I do see and hear these guys, and they pretty much never have their car at the event. Over 30 years ago, it was the same thing, only about performance. The guy who had a badass car that could mop the floor with my goat never had his (or more often, his brother's or cousin's) anywhere in sight, so he could back it up. The world is full of insecure blowhards. They simply need to be ignored.

A little positive spin:

A while ago while driving our dirty original and rough ’67 GTO 4-spd to a friend’s shop, I pulled up to the red stop light. Although it’s an A/C car, I had the windows down and overheard a guy at the bus stop to my right say to another:

“Now that’s Old School right there – damn that’s nice!”

Made my day. Thank You Sir!!!

And my Mrs. will never forget the 1st time we took same said GTO to one of the local Saturday night cruise spots. She was amazed, and commented about the number of people who gathered around it and were interested in every little detail of our rough GOAT. Most every comment was positive about the car.

And she pointed out the many Car Czars (“Vampires” as she called them) who frequent most gatherings were also combing over the car. One was so upset that we’d ended up with the GTO he was literally shaking in anger…as if “it should have been his”.

Another small irritant that I am surprised nobody else has mentioned is something I have never figured out. You have to PAY to enter your car in a car show. So, it is one of the few things I know of where you spend a shtld of $ on something and then have to pay to display it for the pleasure of others to offer criticism who often have no skin in the game whatsoever. Fitting that a Czar would preside over a set-up like that.

You're a much better man than me. No way I would have let that go on as long as it did. One thing I have found that works very well in shutting guys up is taking their picture. Whip out the phone and take a shot or keep on taking shots and wait for the reaction.

At a recent cruise night I came across a 90'ish Mustang that interested me and the 25-30 year old owner started the conversation by saying what he needed to do to it yet. I told him that we all had "works in progress" and not to worry about, just drive and enjoy. We need to encourage the younger set not drive them away.
