Convertible Top Rain Gutters
 

I bought my '69 LeMans Convert with the rain gutter not installed. I'm pretty sure I know where it goes (I just need to buy the screw set), I just can't seem to get it there through the trunk - it's too big to maneuver into place. Is it supposed to be installed from the inside of the car, or through the trunk? Thanks.

That's what I was afraid of. Has anyone been able to get one of these on without removing the entire convertible top? One idea was to cut it in half, and then I might be able to install each half separately through the trunk, and somehow seal the seam. That'd be a last resort though.

That's good news - do you remember how you installed it? Through the trunk somehow?

yep thru trunk wasnt hard just gettin some of the screws started were but i,m old and half blind glasses fogged up.

Here's the problem - the gutter is 67" wide, and there are 2 welded braces that are 40" wide (see attached photo). I have to get the gutter through, and behind the braces. The gutter is fairly rigid, and it's not possible to flex it to get through that 40" space (that I can figure out).

The proper way to install the rain gutter is to remove the rear seat and
side armrest assemblies, and then remove the bolts from the rear tack rail on the top
and pull the rail up out of the opening. You should then be able to install the rain gutter
from the front without going in to the trunk. Pulling the rail up out of the opening is really
not as hard to do as it sounds. You will need to have the convertible top in the halfway
down position in order to remove the rear tack rail. Also, you should be aware that when
the top was installed, a tail should have been left below the tack rail that would go into
the rain gutter, allowing the water to feed into the gutter. A lot of people who don't know what they are doing when changing tops on these cars will cut the excess material off that extends below the rear tack rail, resulting in water getting in the trunk when it rains or at the car wash, even with the rain gutter in place.

I agree with GTOhurst, it's really a piece of cake, two bolts and the tack strip is out

I really dont remember but i think your right the back seat was out cause i put the interior in later after my bro/I were done with the top.
