My big ole brake question...
 

So, I thought we were ready to take the 9 mile cruise to get ice cream and find out what belt, hose, or other was gonna blow....

Sadly, on a much more local test drive, I found out why the brakes are so jerky. Left rear brake cylinder drained the contents of the MC leaving all the evidence in a trail down the drive.

Recommended by a coworker was Kanter auto parts. But what I found was:

So I am left with the following question.....

How do I know if my inner bore diameter is 1 1/8" or 1 3/16" ? or does it matter?

Are they interchangeable?

Really wanna get this old girl on the road to take her to get a finish detail, so I can prioritize what is next. But the brake leakage kinda caused a lot of delay.

She still starts after 3 pumps on the pedal. But she don't move anymore cause I'm afraid we're gonna pop out the other side of the garage. :doh::doh:

There are much better places to but parts from than Kanter. I only use them as a last resort. Since you are not driving the car, take the cylinder off and see what size it is. It probably really doesn't matter as long as you use the same diameter cylinders on each sde.

BTW, were you looking for the ribbed rear panel for your car?

As Steve says, there are better places than Kanter to look first.
Rock Auto's prices vary from $3.85 to $5.92. You'll still need to know what size.

Start HERE (at Performance Years). Call their tech line on Monday if you get hung up browsing the online catalog.

You may want to have the VIN handy as well. There was an early / late suspension design and the two aren't interchangeable. Perhaps a brake system changed then also, hence the "option".

PM sent. The difference in the wheels cylinders isbased on the American/Canadian Chassis. American cars used Pontiac Chassis and the Canadian cars got Chevrolet Chassis. Napa Auto Parts list them this way and are easy to deal with.

The fronts and the rears are not the same in bore or mounting......

The REARS are 15/16" on a 65 B body American made Pontiac.

And to answer two questions: Yes, I am in a VERY bad mood today, and No, I do not pull tech data outta my a$$ like Kanter apparently does.

You should be able to get the Dorman P/N I gave you in the other thread for the assembly at any parts store in the country. A kit to rebuild the cylinder is gonna cost you maybe 50 cents less than the whole dang thing........

deadbug, I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the people that programmed the computers. If you walk into an Autozone and ask for a pilot bearing for a 65 Catalina with a 4 speed, they will tell you they don't have them. Then say for a 68 GTO 4 speed and they have it in stock and it's the same frickin part.
